JVC shows love for Mother Nature with speaker concept
More and more consumer electronics manufacturers are turning green these days, because if they don’t, there won’t be enough humans left behind to purchase their future products, which is not very good for the company’s bottomline. JVC is currently toying with a totally different concept where speakers are concerned, with the Sound Garden Kirikabu speaker. What makes this special is you are able to plant your desired potted plant on it, and located at the bottom of this “pot” is a woofer as well as left and right channel stereo speakers that are powered by an internal amplifier. While most electronics and water don’t mix, this concept’s different as you need to add water into the mix before you’re good to go. The pods can also be connected to others in a hive formation so that audio quality can be enhanced, but it will take a fair bit of time before such aspiring technology is translated into real world practicality.

Concept Nokia phone with substrate-filled display

Touch screen cell phones are all the rage these days, but unfortunately for many, one of the major drawback of such a display is this - there is no tactile feedback whatsoever to let you know that you have managed to make a selection on the screen itself. Of course, haptic feedback does change the game quite a bit, but not by much. After all, having my handset vibrate with each selection I make isn’t exactly an indication of me making the right choice. The Nokia concept aims to bring things to the next level with a small pump that fills a substrate right under the display, offering one’s fingers something to feel and press. Don’t think this concept will ever make it to production anytime soon though - maybe in 5 years’ time?

Energy Seed concept helps with recycling process
Although alkaline batteries aren’t exactly the greatest for the environment since they can’t be recharged and most of the time, people don’t dispose of them properly once they’re drained of all juice. Enter the Energy Seed concept - this LED lamp features a wide range of compartments at the base that allow you to drop in used alkaline batteries of varying sizes. The base will consolidate whatever remaining power from all these alkaline batteries to power the LED lamp, making sure that all those extra power is not gone to waste while lighting up the environment to make it safer for the public to walk at night. Of course, it will take some manpower to make sure those really dead batteries are still disposed off properly though.

i-sleep lets you snooze on your laptop

Those who travel frequently will know that getting enough rest along the journey is essential to arrive at the destination feeling refreshed, but with many people carrying laptops these days, it can be quite a danger if you’re a heavy sleeper and snooze off in a bustling airport terminal - you might just wake up to find that your precious laptop and all the information carried within is no longer there. With the i-sleep laptop bag by Ivonne Dippmann, you will be able to go to sleep with a peace of mind, knowing that for someone to steal your laptop, they’ll have to wake you up first. The i-sleep pillow can be attached to your pillow, where it gets filled with warm air while playing music with an alarm kicking in after 10 minutes. Perfect for those essential cat naps on your travels. Too bad the i-sleep pillow is but a concept at this point in time.

Hang It On Concept
Portable hard drives are getting more and more popular as they turn out to be convenient carriers and movers of large amounts of data, but somehow placing them on the desk right beside your laptop or desktop adds to the overall clutter - which is why designer Sangho Jin has come up with the Hang It On hard drive encloser - this device allows you to hang your 2.5″ portable hard drive off the back of your laptop’s LCD display. Better make sure that hinge is not loose beyond all hope though, as a delicate shift in weight will definitely let your hard drive experience a mini drop, not to mention the internal hurt you suffer from having your monitor crash down like that. Will this concept ever see the light of day? Only time will tell.

BlackBerry Terminator - you’ve gotta be kidding!

Man, if only AT&T really has the BlackBerry Terminator in the pipeline - this will definitely be one of the fastest selling and most popular handsets ever in history. I mean, how can anyone resist a transforming smartphone? Imagine placing this clamshell handset on the table only to have it transform into a menacing (albeit tiny) piece of weaponry, ready to shoot your boss when he’s not looking for putting you through a whole lot of suffering. Too bad this is but a concept that won’t get realized until the Allspark makes its transition from the fictional universe into the real world.

Video device concept
The video device concept is pretty snazzy, and it definitely flows with many of the current electronic devices we have which are able to record more than just still images, capturing our favorite memories in full color video at ever increasing resolutions as well. This concept is made up of two components - the video recorder itself and a docking station that remains connected to a TV. The recorder will store everything in a digital format (what did you expect anyways, analog?), and when docked, you will be able to throw in your own special effects and perform clip edits thanks to a touch screen interface that is available on the recorder. Once you’re satisfied with your work, you can burn it onto a DVD to share with family and friends. The video device concept is the brainchild of designer Jonas Buc.

Experience Recorder
The Experience recorder is a concept that helps you get through the day without missing a beat when night falls, helping you remember every single event that happens. It comes in the form factor of a glove (one that is pretty funky looking, I might add), passively recording everything that is going on around you. Since data storage is a concern always for video, the Experience recorder will directly record sounds around you, touch sensations while snapping pictures occasionally which might be of interest to you later. That means no more surfing NSFW sites, and it would definitely get a whole lot harder trying to cheat on your partner as the Experience recorder is always watching. Unfortunately, this is but a concept at this point in time, but it would be nice to see a final product materialize soon.

PodSpot industrial sized speaker system
Now here’s a concept speaker that will definitely make your beach parties a literal blast - it comes in the form of a large industrial sized speaker and will cater to not only your iPod, but other compatible MP3 players as well. Taking on a splash-proof design, it is more than capable of handling the rugged outdoors, although those who are more meticulous with their iPods will probably think twice about bringing this to the beach sans Otterbox. The external surface looks nice to the touch, but being an outdoor speaker system, you can be sure that scratches and nicks will be a common occurrence. The internal battery will power a wide range of tweeters, horns and two 10? subwoofers for up to 24 hours without taking a break. It is capable of a 115 db output, more than enough to attract the attention of everyone in the vicinity while you strut your dance moves.

Shooter fire extinguisher concept
Fire extinguishers are such boring things to look at, but how about a radical overhaul of the external design? The Shooter fire extinguisher will definitely appeal to those who love Nerf guns, as it comes in the form factor of a rifle that is fully loaded with CO2 cartridges to help you snuff out any small fires in the vicinity. Of course, larger fires would require the help of the local fire brigade. Still, you will be able to aim through the smoke accurately thanks to a laser guidance system while an alarm button helps you let others know that a fire has broken out - just in case the smoke detectors don’t work. I wonder whether we will see such a concept materialize in the future or not.
