Sir Richard Branson gets techie on flight to Orange County

May 1, 2009 by techiediva

bransonVirgin America’s inaugural flight from San Francisco to Orange County took place on April 29th, and I joined in the all-day festivities to bring you some interesting bits about some of your favorite reality TV stars starting with Sir Richard Branson (”The Rebel Billionaire”).  If you guys are following me on Facebook, then you got to see my instant updates throughout the day ( I wish it was as easy to update this blog from my iPhone, but it’s not, so make sure you follow me on Facebook). Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to see Sir Richard Branson sitting next to Arianna Huffington across the aisle as they conducted a live  interview for Digg fans on UStream. You can see a list of questions they asked him here. Personally, I wanted to find out just how social media savvy Sir Branson really is, and while he’s not on Facebook, he did tell me he follows his fake profile there for laughs. He was also proud of the fact that he  updates his own Twitter account on occasion and even has a blog, which is more than most billionaires can say. What’s even better is that he conducted his first Twitter interview from the sky with the LA Times using hashtags (#vx2oc)! How times have changed!

Miss iJustine was also on board hosting Virgin America’s celebrity air-to-ground stream for the OC flight launch, and celebs like Shaun White, Sunset Tan, The Real Housewives of Orange County, and others were there to celebrate the launch. We’ll be posting video of the event shortly, so stay tuned for the rest of the interviews. Meanwhile, check out our Flickr stream for more candids, and the pictures below.

Dell adds 120 new designs to its Laptop Art Studio

May 1, 2009 by techiediva

dellstudio

Notebooks used to come in black or gray, but Dell decided a good computer doesn’t have to look so serious all the time. The company has added 120 more designs to its Dell Design Studio, which means now you have 200 ways to brighten up your lappy with fun, colorful art. The expanded collection gives you the option to personalize a new  Studio 15 or Studio 17 notebook if you want more than just a solid color. Artwork is displayed in a virtual art gallery, and hand-picked by a curator who arranges the collection based on themes. Artists involved in this project include  Deanne Cheuk, Maya Hayuk, Jason Holley, TWEEQIM (the design studio made up of husband and wife team miQ and Thuy3), Thailand native Korakrit Arunanondchai, Filth (the nom de guerre of designer and artist Lucas Irwin), painter Robert Hargrave, Peter Stevens, Keith Warner and OBVLN. Personally, I think it’s about time some gave us a choice on what to put on our laptops, so kudos to Dell for taking the initiative here. So what do you think? Do you like the designs?

jawbone-colorsI lost my Jawbone headset recently, and guess what? I am running out on May 2nd to get one of these jewel tone beauties. Jawbone Prime is the new Aliph headset with Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR for easier pairing and multipoint connections, Noise Assassin 2.0 with improved noise reduction, and a new colored pattern on the surface for a much improved look. Love it! For a demure look, you can stick Blah Blah Black, Coffee Talk, Going Platinum, but if you want to stand out, check out the stunning EARCANDY collection that includes “Drop me a Lime,” “Frankly Scarlet,” “Yello!,” and “LILAC You Mean It.” I want them all!jawbone-prime-004

White Leica M8 comes with a shocking price

April 23, 2009 by techiediva

leicam8

Japanese photogs will be able to get their hands on this beautiful Leica M8 camera as early as June– that is if they don’t mind paying $9,000 for one. The white limited edition M8 has interchangeable lenses, a special lacquer finish on the back, and white leather on the front to compliment the silver chrome finish. Is this worth the $9k price tag? Probably not in this economy, or ever, but feel free to disagree. It looks gorgeous though, I won’t deny that much. Via Engadget

Facebook Manners: Don’t be a square

facbookmannersTyra may have offered some good Facebook etiquette tips on her show,  but if you missed that, check out this 1950’s style video spoof created by YourTango.com. Alice and her steady boyfriend Timmy here shows us a few things about dating on Facebook ettiqutte by reminding the viewer about changing relationship status and posting naughty pictures of  other people.  We certainly want to keep “the electric friendship generator”  fun for everyone,  so don’t be bongleheads. Watch the video!

Ripple Bluetooth Headset Concept

April 22, 2009 by techiediva

bt My favorite Bluetooth headset is the new Jawbone because it’s small and stylish, but what if a headset could look more like an accessory for women? An earring perhaps? That’s what Ilya Fridman has explored with her Ripple Bluetooth headset design. Popgadget says the earring clips on to your earlobe and features a hidden microphone so you can make your calls.  When you’re done, you can just push a center button to listen to music. I’m not a fan of clip-earrings, but this headset looks better than anything I’ve seen. What do you think?

Here’s how the designer describes her creation:
The idea of smooth fluid sounds waves, like that of ripples in a still body of water is the main inspiration behind the design of this headset. The rubber earring clasp design allows this headset to attach itself to the earlobe much like an earring. This allows it to have a clean minimal look without any heavy over ear hooks weighing down your style.

The Headset can be activated in two ways: the first of which activates the ‘talk’ function and is achieved by flipping down the microphone; or it can also be activated for listening only (e.g. music) by pressing the button in the centre of the light ring.

Designed in 2008, this Headset was a shortlisted entry in the Plantronics - Sound Innovation Competition early 2009.

Don’t get caught Twittering at work

April 22, 2009 by techiediva

twitterpage

Some people spend way too much time on social networks during working hours, and some of them end up getting in big trouble or even fired.  Spreadtweet is a great way to hide your Twitter addiction at work because this application looks like a boring Excel spreadsheet. Tweets are displayed in plain text on the sheet, and are even numbered, but the best part is you can also update your Twitter page by typing in the top text box.  The fake spreadsheet is available for PC and Mac users,  so there’s no excuse folks. The New York Times says it only takes seconds to get it up and running, and because it looks so authentic, you’ll be able to fool curious co-workers peering over your shoulder as they walk by your cube. Only problem is this method won’t save you from getting in trouble if your boss has subscribed to your Twitter feed.

Nabaztag gets RFID Mirror companion

April 22, 2009 by techiediva
Filed under Blog, Featured, Gizmos, Misc

nabaztagrfid1Remember the cute Nabaztag Wi-Fi Bunny? The Mirror by Violet is now available at Think Geek to compliment this cool gizmo.   It basically comes with several RFID tags you can attach to objects, that way when you place the object on the mirror, it begins to pull up actions or tasks you’ve programmed into the chip. For example, if you place a Ztamp on your keychain, it could immediately pull up Google Maps, send a message to your family, or pull up your favorite sites.  The Mirror comes with 3 Ztamps tags, and two mini-rabbits. The gizmo is compatible with both Mac and PC.  You can watch a video of how it works here if you wnat to see it in action.

Shiny Shiny shows us a more practical use for these tags in the video below. Amusement, a French magazine, inserted one of these chips inside the magazine, so when placeed on the Mirror, it immediately launches a more interactive experience with extra content, video and music feeds. It’s definitely an interesting twist to the little Nabaztag experience.
