Guitar Hero Widget

Posted on 02 May 2008 by techiediva

Love that Guitar Hero? How about a Guitar Hero III widget for your website? Activition released an embeddable GH widget users can plya by hitting the number 1-5, so no guitar controller is needed. Gamers can choose to play the easy, medium, and hard mode, but I can tell you know, you’ll have a hard time getting past the easy mode without failing in less than 3 seconds. I tried playing the game, but it just sucks playing on your keyboard. The songs include “Cult of Personality”, “Schools Out” and “Metal Heavy Lady.” Give the game a try, and tell us if you find it easy or difficult to play. Continue Reading

FC Mobile portable NES console

Posted on 28 April 2008 by BabyReaps

The FC Mobile portable NES console helps you carry around your favorite 8-bit memories without breaking the bank, although I would say the much more convenient method would be to just download a NES emulator on your computer and run games from there (you didn’t hear me say that now, did you?). Anyways, the FC Mobile portable NES console comes with an actual cartridge slot for old school NES carts, although Japanese Famicom ones won’t fit. The FC Mobile portable NES console will retail for less than $50. Woe to you if your mom has actually cleared out the attic of all your NES games and given it to the Salvation Army home. I suppose there is always room for some retro love, no matter how many bits we’ve come in the video game industry.

Pop ‘N Music Be Mouse

Posted on 27 March 2008 by BabyReaps

Japan is famous for their sushi as well as weird and wacky stuff (games, peripherals, fashion sense - you name it), and here we have today something from the first category. The Pop ‘N Music Be Mouse Windows-based game doesn’t require any insane 4000 dpi laser gaming mouse, as it ships with its very own colorful multi-button mouse that will be used to dictate gameplay. This music pattern matching game requires the user to open the insect-like wings on the Be Mouse controller in order to gain access to all nine buttons. Reminiscent of Beatmania, each time a colored indicator falls down on the screen, you have to tap the corresponding button in order to keep up with the pace. Tunes are based on the popular Japanese Pop ‘N Music arcade series. The Pop ‘N Music Be Mouse will retail for $69.90 apiece.

Clay consoles now available

Posted on 23 March 2008 by BabyReaps

Don’t you just love polymer clay? Polymer clay artist Lauren of TheClayCollection has come up with extremely tiny versions of the Xbox, it’s more updated brother the Xbox 360, and the classic NES (complete with matching controller earrings) among others. They’re slightly larger than a penny, but there is enough detail and color to tell the difference between the consoles as well as the type. Just in case you’re going to raise a ruckus that Lauren did not make your favorite console, fret not. Lauren is also open to making custom mini consoles, their controllers and even mini-games according to your preference (and wallet). Prices range from $6 upwards.

Razer Piranha Gaming Headset

Posted on 04 March 2008 by Cat

As a gamer, I look for good sound in a headset, and the Razer Piranha has that perfected.  With noise-filtering for the microphone, your teammates or gaming pals won’t miss a word you say.  Comfort is first with Razer, too.  Ergonomic designs are a focus for this company and these Piranha headphones happen to have adjustable earphones to help with every movement you make and keep your long hours of gaming less about your comfort and more about your enjoyment.

Another plus for Razer is the cable, they took extra time to ensure it’s durability by covering it with a braided fiber.  I had no problem just plugging it in and using it, either.  No annoying wait to set it up.

Not only are they awesome to use for the excellent sound and quality but they also have added ‘gadget addict’ features like the lovely blue icon on the sides and blue lighting on the control that’s attached to the cord.  If you’re into case mods. or just like to show off your favorite brand, Razer has your number.  Shop their site and keep watching for new items.  They keep adding more things for me to drool over.

I love their company motto, too:  “For gamers, by gamers.”  Who better to design my stuff but someone that has something in common with me?  They have a new mouse coming, too, and I hope to feature the Salmosa here as soon as I get more details.

DS Lite gets new skin

Posted on 26 February 2008 by BabyReaps

The Nintendo DS Lite is one handheld console that has certainly gotten more than its fair share of accessories to date, and you can be sure that the marketing machine isn’t going to stop anytime soon - hence, the Loyton Leather Tuning Skin Case for the DS. While the word ‘leather’ is used, no animals were skinned in the process as it just has a leather feel to it and nothing more. This is achieved by embossing a simulated leather texture onto Polycarbonate - that ought to get all those animal activists off your back. Each case comes in two pieces, where one protects the top while the other prevents the bottom from picking up scratches. The hinge is left exposed, and overall the Loyton Leather Tuning Skin Case looks like a pretty sweet deal since they don’t seem to obstruct any of the controls. Each case retails for $24.99.

Toy Quest Touch Table

Posted on 25 February 2008 by BabyReaps

While Microsoft’s Windows operating system is pretty convoluted and tend to bring more agony than joy with its famous Blue Screen of Death, they seem to be doing pretty OK when it comes to kids’ toys. Take the Toy Quest Touch Table for example - this nifty little plaything is a 21″ touch screen monitor, enabling kids to play games on it in addition to other educational features such as accessing Google Earth to learn more about geography. The Toy Quest Touch Table also features a photo viewer, DVD playback and MP3 support. Will you drop $499 for this or prefer to get a heavy set of encyclopedias instead?

Virtual Reality Controlled by Thoughts

Posted on 22 February 2008 by techiediva

emotiveheadset.jpgFor years,  gamers have wondered how science was going to make their experience in virtual worlds more real. VR goggles were one way of doing it, but what about mind control? Why not? The technology has been available for years, so why not use it for a little R and R time? Well, gamers everywhere should be rejoicing at what could be the biggest breakthrough coming to the consumer world. Emotiv has announced the upcoming release of it’s sensor ladden neuro headset capable of picking up brain waves that allows the user to move objects and control their avatar in a virtual setting .  This thing can pick up 30 different emotions, facial expressions, and cognitive action so gamers have plenty of ways to interact with others using thought control. The bad news is gamers will need to practice their poker face a lot more because this headset will makes impossible to hide your emotions behind a computer. The gaming headset is only in prototype form, but will be selling for $299 later this year along with a game. It may someday be compatible with other games, but for now you’ll have to exercise your  mind with whatever game they decide to include. Tennis, anyone?

NES Controller Pillowcase

Posted on 14 February 2008 by BabyReaps

Do you live, eat and breathe video games? If the answer is in the affirmative, chances are you would have grown up on a healthy diet of NES and SNES games. Old classics tend to have a hold on us, which is why Nintendo fan Penguinotic has decided to put her creative juices to good use with these handcrafted giant NES controller pillowcases which are supposed to hold nice, fluffy pillows instead of more circuitry to feed your video game addiction in the bedroom. Modeled faithfully after Nintendo’s classic 8-bit console, each pillowcase is stitched from machine washable super-soft fleece. It retails for $40 each, while getting a pair will result in a $10 discount.

Sundance Celebs Get Physical at Wii Lounge

Posted on 25 January 2008 by techiediva

tara.jpgForget the press junkets and independent films, when celebs head to the Sundance Film Festival they do it to attend the private parties or gift suites like the popular Wii Lounge. Gaming site 1UP caught a glimpse of Tara Reid playing a game on the Wii that requires her to do some type of sword fighting, and Variety has proof that Josh Hartnet, William H. Macy, Richard Jenkins stopped by the Wii Lounge, perhaps hoping to score a Wii? Ah, it feels good to know even celebs have a hard time getting a Wii.

Wondering what other celebs stopped by the Wii Lounge looking to get physical?

Brittany Murphy gets Wii Fit in sexy boots.

Lauren Graham and Matthew Perry stopped by too.

Check out some pics over at Wire Image. Looks like Adrian Grenier, Sara Jessica Parker, Dennis Quaid, Misha Barton, and Mena Suvari all stopped by too.
