With the popular rise of self photo taking, this little gadget is sure to be useful. The Quik Pod is a telescopic monopod that allows you to take pictures of yourself without the result being off centered and too close looking.
It attaches to any camera weighing up to 450g and is light enough to be carried around wherever you go. No more having to ask strangers to take a picture of you and your friend(s) and taking a chance on their photo taking skills. You can also use it to take pictures above crowds or hard to reach areas. The Quik Pod comes with a pocket clip, hiking clip, wrist strap, and carry bag.

Digital cameras these days are packed with extras such as slideshows, slimming features, red eye reduction, face recognition, etc. And just when you thought they couldn’t pack anything else in them, they start adding ludicrous features that won’t take the picture unless everyone has their eyes open (blink shot), and everyone is all smiles (Smile shot). Amazingly, manufacturers are realizing that consumers know they don’t really need a 10-megapixel camera, so they’re stepping up their game by finally adding Wi-Fi. Sony’s newest Cybershot, the DSC-G1 digital camera, will be able to send photos to your computer and up to four other cameras enabled with DLNA technology simultaneously. The 6-megapixel beauty has 2GB of built-in memory that can store up to 7,500 VGA quality photos. On the back, it sports a huge 3.5-inch LCD just like the iPhone, and also includes other features such as image stabilization, image editors, and memory slot, and video capturing abilities. You can pre-order it now, that is if you’re willing to pay $600 for it. Personally, I’ll wait for other slimmer versions, and ones that will transmit photos via Wi-Fi to my blog or Flickr stream.

Have you ever wondered what does your four-legged canine friend see whenever it roams around the neighborhood? Short of going for a walk with it, you will never find out. Takara Tomy of Japan decided to do something about the situation by presenting dog lovers worldwide with the Wonderful Shot Dog Camera. Before you get started, make sure you secure this 3.5 megapixel camera around your pooch’s neck and let it rip. Walking the dog will never be the same experience again, as this unique camera features 8MB of storage space which is enough to carry up to 90 photos.
You can manually capture photos from it’s point of view thanks to an included remote control, but those who prefer to let Lassie roam around and do his thing can always set the Wonderful Shot Dog Camera to automatic, where a snapshot will be taken every minute. Once home, just remove this camera and hook it up to a computer in order to view the day’s outing, your pooch’s favorite spot, and his homies. You can import one today for $51.

Samsung has released a sports version of their digital camera line that includes 3G connectivity. The VLUU i70 Digicam has a 7.2 megapixel CCD, a 3" LCD and doubles as a media player with HSPDA included for 3G high speed connections.

This high speed connection will enable you to upload photos instantly to the Internet (with a service plan that is separately signed up for) and share them with friends and family almost as fast as you can take them. There is also an option to text message on the camera and it seems full of extended features we haven’t seen on digital cameras just yet.
That’s right, the rumor is that Samsung will release this camera soon and you’ll get to see just how easy it is to share photos and keep in touch with others while at the same time, listening to your favorite music. I’m not sure how well a digital camera with these options will sell in comparison to a cellphone but hey, it’s worth a peek!

This year I was unable to attend the International CES for 2007 but our own Techie Diva is there. I have found a few items she’s getting a first look at and we’ll be posting those here as they come into her camera view.
I found a few on my own and the Samsung digital cameras that have been released have a great site to show them off.

With stats. like 7.2 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom, the L73 is definitely "pocket sized" but with some power behind the size. Here’s part of the press release:
Samsung Camera today announced the release of the Samsung L73, a sleek
and pocket-sized digital point-and-shoot camera with a 7 mega pixel
image sensor and a precision 3x optical zoom lens. The L73 is the ideal
camera for photographers who want a compact digital camera they can
take anywhere without compromising on features, image quality or ease
of use. Housed in a lustrous black or silver finish, the L73 boasts
many of the features typically reserved for cameras that cost twice as
much.
The movie mode has four different resolutions and this Samsung will be available for purchase in the spring of ‘07. Watch for it!

Hello Kitty seems like a distant memory, so I had to bring her back with this post on the latest digicam for your little Techie Diva in training. Exemode just released the HK DC500 5-megapixel camera with a 2" LCD display, in pink. I’ve been looking for a camera for my niece, and I think she’ll love this one. Now I have to figure out how to get it for her. Oh well, if all else fails, Target has some fun Hello Kitty stuff too. Source: Akihabara
