Elecom goes pink with 16GB USB flash drives

January 23, 2009 by BabyReaps

elecom-pinkIs it me, or do gadget manufacturers take the easy way out at times by unveiling some of their current line up in a gaudy pink color? Guess Elecom has taken that route with its latest USB flash drives that go by the model number MF-BWU2, although they’re easier to be remembered as the Elecom “PINK PINK PINK” USB flash drive instead. At least they have the decency to throw in a whopping 16GB of storage space with each USB flash drive, making it a whole lot handier to tote around compared to a regular 2GB or 4GB flash drive. No word on pricing, but it shouldn’t burn too big a hole in your pocket if you want to bring one home.

Twit one’s way to fame

January 23, 2009 by BabyReaps

kickbee-twitterTalk about starting early - dad-to-be Corey Menscher wants to give his kid a head start in the world of tech by building a wireless device which is able to send messages to a computer via Twitter through kicks and turns while inside the mother’s womb! This is just plain crazy and is probably a cheap publicity stunt, and who knows what type of mental scarring the poor kid will have to go through in the future. Imagine being on the playground only to be teased by the rest, “Here comes the Twitterer!” or “Why don’t you twit your way out of this!”. It just makes me wonder where can I find a book that interprets the kind of kicks a baby gives in the womb into plain English.

Chumby gets a LadyFace makeover

January 23, 2009 by techiediva

chumby2What is Chumby? Well, it’s hard to say what this beanbag shaped Wi-Fi enabled multi-purpose gadget really is because it’s real purpose is up to you really.  Thanks to the vast number of widgets it can host, Chumby can double as a clock, radio,  iPod speaker, digital photo frame, a weather station,  game device, calendar, and more.  There are 400+ widgets on the site that you can download to keep track of your eBay auctions, your Facebook profile, watch YouTube videos, Twitter, Yelp,  and much more. Up until now, Chumby has been sporting a rather sad looking leather cover, but thanks to artist Sara Antoinette Martin, Chumby just got a little  cooler.

Engadget spotted the handpainted “Goldfish”  design by Ms Martin, currently selling for $600 on the site. The package comes with small drawings by the artist, Lady Head pins, postcards, charms, and is numbered and signed by the artist. Surely, something the company should consider doing more often, although it would be great if they would keep the price reasonable in this economy. What do you think of this new Chumby makeover?  Below is a video of David Pogue attempting to explain Chumby.

I’ll be posting a complete review of the HP Mini Vivienne Tam HP edition very soon, but below is a clip of  my interview with HP about the beautiful red netbook.  The fashionable netbook is all covered in a Tam’s signature peony design and comes with red satin sleeve. It weighs a mere 2.45 lbs, has an 10-inch display, and is only 1-inch thin.  You can find more information about this special netbook here. In the meantime, enjoy this clip filmed at CES.picture-481picture-319picture-324

CES 2009: Sony’s VAIO Lifestyle PC

sonyvaiolifestyleI have to admit, as soon as I heard that Sony had unveiled it’s VAIO Lifestyle PC, I just knew I had to see it and I wasn’t disappointed. Weighing in at 1.4 pounds, the ultraportable Lifestyle PC (just don’t call it a netbook) features a wide 8-inch screen, 3G antenna that will connect to Verizon’s 3G, Atom processor, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 2GB of RAM, Windows Vista, and up to 128GB of storage. I was told the clutch-like device is aimed at the ladies who want to be extra mobililty, but the clever male Sony rep pulled one out of his front jacket pocket during our interview proving this laptop is really just for anyone who appreciates good design and portability. The VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC will be out next month and retail for $900 (it’s no wonder they won’t call it a netbook) and will be available in red, white, black, and green. Accessories will follow, so you can accessorize the UMPC with colorful cases that match.picture-487picture-488picture-489picture-304picture-4861

Wireless Illuminated Super Tiny Keyboard

December 18, 2008 by BabyReaps

illuminatedkeyboardAre you a frequent traveler who find it rather difficult to type on your 7″ netbook’s keyboard, and wish you had something slightly larger to let your fingers dance across? Well with the Wireless Illuminated Super Tiny Keyboard, all your portable typing troubles are over. This illuminated design even enables you to work in the dark without missing a beat - or should we say, key. In addition, it is lightweight and slim, but the $47 price tag might be a wee bit prohibitive to some as I know I wouldn’t venture past the $30 price point if I were to choose something like this. It operates wirelessly via the 2.4GHz radio frequency and has a maximum working range of 10 meters.

Mimobot unveils new drives

December 15, 2008 by BabyReaps

Mimobot USB flash drives are works of art, every single one of them - something like what a Kubrick bear is like, although it has not reached such cult status just yet. Who knows? The future might bring something very different altogether. I’m pleased to announce that there is a new range of Mimobots for your storage pleasure if you’re into such elongated designs, including Pirate Nero, Fairybit and Pastaio. For those who are running out of time (and money as well as gift ideas), this new range of Mimobot USB flash drives could very well save your bacon until next Christmas arrives.

Teddy Speaker spruces up your desktop

December 2, 2008 by BabyReaps

Folks who want to spruce up their desktop, then there is the Teddy Speaker that will definitely tug at your heartstrings. It comes in the form of a traditional teddy bear, although the color is really an acquired taste - it is a love it or hate it affair. The speakers are located on the teddy bear’s feet, while its tummy will store the battery pack. I presume you can hook this up to your favorite MP3 player while you’re snuggled up in your bed with tunes pumping out from its feet, or you can just place it beside your monitor to attract the attention from the rest of your colleagues. The teddy speaker will retail for £14.99 and would be suitable for a Christmas present for an adult adolescent pal.

Both models will feature two different designs. As for the combo model, that will be powered by a relatively weak Intel Celeron 575 2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, a 80GB HDD, a 15.4″ TFT WXGA screen at 1280 × 800 resolution, a DVD drive, Wi-Fi connectivity, Windows Vista and pre-installed Hello Kitty wallpapers.
