LG SH240 feels some skin

Posted on 26 March 2008 by BabyReaps

lg-sh240_2.jpgI’ve absolutely no idea why the folks at LG decided to skin up their mediocre LG SH240 cell phone. This GSM HSDPA handset comes with some sort of silicon coating on the front, encompassing the keypad and D-pad as well so that whenever you touch it (through sending text messages and composing notes, of course, and not fondling the cell phone itself), it will feel like skin unlike the cold, rubbery feeling on other handsets. I suppose if you talk long enough on the SH240, the battery will start to heat up, giving the “skin” surface a semblance of warmth to somewhat resemble an actual human touch. This is one of the weirder gimmicks that I have seen to push the sales of cell phones, and it certainly won’t be the last. I’ll give the LG SH240 a pass.

Posted on 18 March 2008 by BabyReaps

The iPhone was highly sought after when it was released last summer, and the fact that
Austrian luxury designer and jeweler Peter Aloisson has ideas to improve on its desirability makes this little cell phone that could even more exclusive. He has used his artistic talents to great effect, coming up with the iPhone Princess Plus is touted to being the most expensive iPhone in the world. The fact is, this iPhone has been laced with 138 Princess cut diamonds, accompanied by 180 other brilliant cut diamonds. What price to pay for such class? €120,000, to be exact. If you don’t have that much reserves swimming in your bank account, you can always settle for the brilliant cut-only diamonds iPhone that retail for €45,000.

There is just something about this pale-faced feline that appeals to different people from all over the world. Hello Kitty fans have yet another piece of merchandise to look forward to, this time in the form of a cell phone. Available in red and pink in addition to black or white, this Hello Kitty product (no idea if it is officially endorsed by Sanrio or not) is aGSM handset that comes in a clamshell form factor, featuring MP3 playback as well as video support and a digital camera. Texting Injuries Are No Joke

Posted on 07 March 2008 by techiediva

Seriously, what’s up with zombie texters? I honestly can’t believe how bad the ‘texting and driving’ situation is,  and now ‘walking and texting’ is becoming a problem in London? An ITN reports says that after a recent study, one charity is launching a program to pad lampposts. Apparently, London’s Brick Lane is so full of walking texters that the street has the highest number of texting injuries, so they’re idiot-proofing the street’s lampposts. If the pilot program proves to be successful, the charity will pad other lampposts around Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool. Honestly, this is the most retarded thing I’ve ever heard of, so I hope the idea dies in Brick Lane.  I just don’t think this padding would help any beautification project the city has going on, and it’s a complete waste of good materials. People who text and walk should be allowed to run into lampposts if they want. No need for textersitting.  It would actually be a lot cooler if this charity  installed video cameras somewhere on the lamppost, and then set up a live feed so we can watch the lamppost offenders. Now that I want to see on YouTube.

Pillowtalk Gets Bluetoothy

Posted on 07 March 2008 by techiediva

Admit it ladies, you love to talk on the phone.  I just talked to a friend I haven’t  seen in almost four years,  for two hours and guess what? My ear was burning! I have a headset (actually I have a few), but I was too lazy to dig it out, and quite frankly, I didn’t expect the converstation to last so long. But the truth of the matter is that I was too lazy to get my Bluetooth headset out. I sure wish I would’ve had a perCushion (is that supposed to sound like percussion?) at the time, though. The nice little cushion has Bluetooth so it connects to your phone, and you can actually carry a converstation using a mic and a built-in loudspeaker– so don’t expect your pillowtalk to be all that private. The cushion is supposed to be ergonomic, but I hear it’s not very comfortable. It’s also going to be pricey at $500, so unless you’re serious about being lazy, I don’t recommend it.  If you still think this is a must have, you can head over to Urban Tool who says it will be available X-Mas 2008. percushion.jpg

Yves Behar limited edition Aliph headset

Posted on 02 March 2008 by BabyReaps

jawbone.jpg

The Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth headset has garnered a pretty good reputation for itself since its release, thanks to bone conduction technology that lets you communicate in a loud and clear manner. This time round, there will be limited edition versions of the Jawbone thanks to designer Yves Behar who have come up with black, white and copper colors that are also known as Dirty Talk, Trash Talk and Sweet Talk respectively. The external aesthetics will be markedly different compared to the vanilla models, but you can be sure that all the technology within remains the same and unaltered. No idea on how much it costs, but it should be the antonym of cheap.

Nokia Morph concept

Posted on 26 February 2008 by BabyReaps

nokia-morph.jpgNokia has teamed up with the University of Cambridge to parade their new stretchable and flexible device known as Morph. This futuristic concept handset comes in a lovely shade of green and is pretty flexible, being able to stretch and bend into all sorts of shapes, hence its name. Features of using nanotechnology in developing such a handset thanks to the use of flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces results in a whole new user experience - no longer do you have to worry about breaking your phone or having it getting nicked once it drops onto the floor. Word has it that Nokia hopes to bring some elements of the Morph into its high end devices within the next seven years. I would love to see a self-cleaning display - say goodbye to pesky fingerprints forever!

BELLPERRE croc leather handsets

Posted on 24 February 2008 by BabyReaps

Crocodile skin was only good for handbags, or so I thought. BELLPERRE has upped the ante with their new and upcoming range of croc leather handsets. What’s interesting about these is the fact that the handsets feature no plastic part, and are handcrafted from premium leather, steel, gold, hardwood and various other high end materials. Since the handset is based on a modular construction model, it ensures every single one of them will be able to be tailored specifically to one’s taste and lifestyle. With more than 200 colors to choose from, you’ll probably have a field day selecting your favorite set up. BELLPERRE cell phones are built from scratch in the Netherlands, and no pricing detail has been confirmed as at press time although they ought to roll out in European markets this June.
