Verizon Wireless pampers mom

Posted on 09 May 2008 by BabyReaps

So mom has been hankering after you for a cell phone for the longest time now, so what better way to show your love to her than with a spanking new handset from Verizon Wireless? If you happen to have a mom who is fashion-forward, perhaps you can consider the recently released Samsung Glyde or the LG Vehus, where both of them offer some form of touch navigation in addition to support for Verizon Wireless’ multimedia services, including V CAST Video and V CAST Music to keep mom entertained even as she gets her hair done.

Buddha Cell Phone

Posted on 03 May 2008 by BabyReaps

Now isn’t this one of the weirder cell phones you have come across? The Buddha cell phone definitely does away with Buddha’s Middle Path where design and appearance is concerned, but it somehow managed to incorporate Buddhist aesthetics ranging from the startup screen to ringtones, making this handset rather ironical to use. Some folks might find this to be vaguely familiar, and they are right as this is actually a highly customized Nokia N70 which features a steel base and 24-carat gold plating, a jade button for video and a jewel encrusted camera. Other more standard features comprise of Bluetooth connectivity, video and audio playback, and handwriting recognition to cater to folks from the East. No idea how much this costs, but I think Buddha himself will frown on such opulence for a handset, what more one that is released with connotations of the Enlightened One himself.

Goldstriker…strikes again

Posted on 22 April 2008 by BabyReaps

Goldstriker is a name synonymous with luxury, and this time round they have done yet another number on the iPhone. You won’t find this iPhone model studded with diamonds though, as Goldstriker decided to just give it a gold heavy treatment, calling it the Black Night Edition. Both the front bezel and Apple logo located on the back of the iPhone will be covered in precious 24 carat gold, and the paint job given is the same paint that is used in the Bentley diamond black metallic range for an added touch of luxury. You will have to dig relatively deep for this, as the 16GB 1.1.4 model will retail for £699.95.

Tag Heuer Meridiist cell phone

Posted on 21 April 2008 by BabyReaps

Tag Heuer is synonymous with watches, but it doesn’t want to be left out of the luxury cell phone segment as well. After all, the Vertu features extremely insane prices, and yet there is enough market for it to sustain sales at swanky boutiques across the world, so why can Tag Heuer do the same? You won’t find diamond-studded handsets here, but it does look solid and luxurious enough to warrant a four-digit price tag. Co-developed with Modelabs, the Meridiist comes in an all-metal casing, complete with a sapphire crystal screen, a 2-megapixel camera, multimedia playback capability, a 1.9″ QVGA display, Bluetooth connectivity and a battery life that supports up to 7 hours of talk time. Pricing ranges from €3,400 to €3,900, depending on the customizations you decide to throw in. Anyone lusting after the Meridiist this second quarter?

Alcatel Sharper Image 909TSI cell phone

Posted on 06 April 2008 by BabyReaps

Alcatel has rolled out a brand new handset known as the Sharper Image 909TSI, accompanying the Playboy OT-V770A which was released at the same time. This time, it comes in the standard candybar form factor which we are all familiar with, and with a touch of bling as well as the Sharper Image 909TSI is covered in a choice of 24k gold or Platinum. Unfortunately, the specifications betray this quad-band GSM’s fine looks as it comes with a mere 2 megapixel camera, a tiny screen, standard Bluetooth connectivity and a memory card slot. What, no 3G or HSDPA? Well, if you prefer looks over substance, the Alcatel Sharper Image 909TSI can be yours from Sharper Image and Sears stores later this year at a yet undisclosed price.

Alcatel takes Playboy route for phone

Posted on 04 April 2008 by BabyReaps

Playboy - that very word elicits giggles from young kids, as they know that this is something meant for adults only. This Playboy cell phone, however, is meant for all ages, and made its rounds at CTIA 2008 in Las Vegas. Also known as the Alcatel OT-V770A, you get a 1.3 megapixel camera, a built-in audio and video player, 10MB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot to accompany the standard talking and texting functions. It will be available in gold, pink and silver colors. There is no word on pricing, and the specifications really don’t do the brand justice as you won’t be able to pull in the chicks with a paltry 1.3 megapixel camera.

XLink Connects You

Posted on 04 April 2008 by Cat

Grace Digital has a wonderful gadget named the XLink that is a cellular bluetooth gateway.  It utilizes your home phone convenience and merges that with your cellular phone usage.  XLink was super easy to set up and worked on my first try.  I followed the simple instructions, plugged the XLink into the phone and immediately found the XLink in my Bluetooth list.

The connection was easily established and the sound was clear.  It connected my cellphone with a standard cordless that I had in the house.  Then, I was able to use my home phone receiver but all the calls coming into my cellphone rang into the house phone.  I can see this being very practical for people with National plans that desire to call long distance with a cellphone plan but wish to use the home phone receiver.

Simple to use, very few buttons, easy to understand lights and the convenience of Bluetooth were great combinations.  Caller ID and Call Waiting work just fine, so you don’t sacrifice features, here.  You can also connect the XLink to your PC for more advanced use.

Bluetooth sunglasses at CTIA

Posted on 03 April 2008 by BabyReaps

CTIA 2008 has unveiled a fair bit of interesting devices, and among them is this pair of Bluetooth sunglasses. As its name suggests, this offering from Inter Brands will not only prevent nasty UV rays from blinding you each time you go out, it also helps you with hands-free conversations on your handset - pretty handy when you’re out to enjoy a nice walk with crisp air or just driving to your destination. The receiver has been integrated into the side of the sunglasses, where its earpiece will come out to greet the nearest ear. The receiver itself can be changed into five different colors to suit your current mood, while there is a total of three styles to choose from. Each pair features 5 hours of talk time and 100 hours of standby time, although that remains to be tested in the real world. Pricing and availability details are currently unknown.

Special edition Iron Man Shine

Posted on 02 April 2008 by BabyReaps

LG has tied up with Marvel to bring Iron Man’s Mark 3 suit to the showfloors of CTIA 2008 in Las Vegas, and the 6 foot 4 inch armor is not only there to draw crowds to its booth but help promote a special edition of the LG Shine handset known as Iron Man. while the original LG Shine has been around since January last year, this hasn’t stopped LG from coming up with a special edition version. I personally think that this effort is noble, but to bestow such an honor on an aging handset like this does not do justice to Marvel’s genius. Iron Man’s color scheme of red and gold are replicated on this special edition Iron Man Shine cell phone. No word on when it will be available nor how much it costs, but other than the cosmetic changes, everything else inside remains the same.
