Dare to be Anti-Valentine

There are so many Valentine’s Day gift guides telling you what gadgets to buy your S.O, so this year, we decided to be a little Anti-Valentines. Instead of telling you what to buy, we will offer you some ways to save your hard-earned cash instead below…

We are so programmed to believe Valentine’s day is a day you celebrate with your lover, but I remember as a child we used to have a ball trading those cutesy cards with other kids and celebrating the day amongst friends. If you’re single this Valentine’s day, dare to make a full day out of it by celebrating the Anti-Valentine way with other single people in your area. Really!
There are sites dedicated to snarky Anti-V-day e-cards, gifts you can buy for friends, and even parties, like Trendy Lime’s Anti-Valentine Ball in San Francisco this Thursday which I’ll be attending (we are media partners). Instead of sitting around in your PJs with a bucket of ice cream on your lap watching RomComs, put on your best Sunday clothes and head to the nearest Anti-Valentine soiree. You just never know what to expect.
Like I told Trend Updates in this fun interview, I’ll be celebrating the day at the spa then hitting the margaritas bar with my girlfriends in honor of St. Valentines Day. No shame in that. So what are your plans my single ladies?
Here are a few things you can do to be Anti-Valentines:
Spend the day on your iPhone- Geekugar has 5 Anti-Valentine’s Day Apps you can download for fun. Is he a 10? Ask your iPhone. Here’s another vanity iPhone app that can determine if his handsomeness passes the Golden Ratio.
Throw a singles party-You could travel to an exotic location with your girlfriends in the hopes of meeting Mr. Right Now, travel to one of the “World’s Best Party Hotels” or host a pot luck where everyone brings along their favorite Anti-Valentine’s appetizer and dishes on their worst dating experience. This is the perfect time to invite the boys-next door for some broken heart shaped cookies or shots of Love Stinks.
Make it a movie night- Forget the Romantic Comedies. This is not the time to entertain such things. Instead, invite some friends over, make some popcorn, and pop in a copy of “Fatal Attraction” into your Blu-Ray player. Not a Glenn Close fan? Check out these other titles. According to RedBox, the “Hangover” is a great flick to watch.
Cruise the Dating Scene- If you must, take a stroll down the information highway in search of that hot hunk on sites like OkCupid.com or you could always attend a Speed Dating event. Why take chances?
Got any more ideas? Leave a comment letting us single gals know what YOU plan to do on V-Day.

All I want for Valentines is a Flip camera

Actually I already have one, but if I didn’t, I’d probably ask for one since these slim cameras are amazing. The Mino HD features 720p resolution, and 4GB of memory, while the non-HD Mino carries 2 GB of memory. Both offer 60 minutes of recording time and all-new built-in FlipShare software for easy saving, organizing and sharing of video from your computer. Mino and Mino HD are the first and only “designable” camcorders so you can upload you graphics, and design your own Flip via Cafe Press. As you can see from the image above, that’s exactly what I did with my Flip, and love it.
Flip also comes with built-in software that allows you to plug the camcorder’s flip-out USB arm into any computer for saving, organizing, editing and uploading of video to YouTube, MySpace, AOL Video and other sharing sites. All Flip camcorders are fully compatible with Windows software as well as Apple’s Mac video applications including QuickTime, iMovie, and iDVD.
These area great cameras for people who don’t like to carry heavy gear (it’s about the size of an MP3 player) and don’t want to bother with transcoding video for YouTube. If you haven’t gotten your Valentine a gift just yet, you can still get them one at www.theFlip.com. They also have gift certificates, so you have no excuse.
Weighing just over 3 oz., the slim Mino retails for $179.99, and MinoHD, $229.

Pink and Blue Jawbone for Valentines

Ladies, I know some of you out there just hate pink gadgets, but those of you who still have a soft spot for pink gizmos might want to know that Jawbone has released the Rambling Rose and Babbling Blue hands-free headsets in time for Valentines Day. I just lost my black Jawbone so I really bummed, but I just might have to get the pink version which looks like it might make you look less like a Bluetool, and more like hip techie. Both are available now at Jawbone.com for $130 as well as the Apple Store and Best Buy.
While I was at CES, the Jawbone guys told me about the New Fit Earbud which allows you wear your Jawbone without the earpiece. This is great news for those of you who wear eyeglasses. They were handing these out free as part of a Beta program, but it looks like that might be over, so keep checking the Jawbone.com website to see how you can get your hands on some of these.

Valentine Tokidoki Mimobot Invasion

I absolutely have an obsession with everything Tokidoki, so I was pleased to see Mimoco is introducing another adorable USB flash drive covered in pop-fashion from tokidoki. Her name is Pink Meletta and she is loaded with tokidoki wallpapers, icons, and other col stuff. It can hold up to 8GB of stuff, and it starts at $25. Ok, so this is not the most romantic gift for V-day, but I’m sure your sweetheart wouldn’t mind having one either. Here’s more about Meletta from the site:
Meletta is in LOVE! Someone snuck past that monkey on her head and gave her a kiss, and now she’s blushing pink and black! Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Pink Meletta is a techie gift that will satisfy your inner geek while not getting you stuck on the couch Valentine’s night.
A word of warning - do NOT ask Meletta how she got that monkey on her head, or where the monkey got that banana, because she doesn’t know and, quite frankly, it’s ticking her off right now. Meletta is a constant reminder to eat your fruits before they eat you - or before that monkey on your back gets hold of them.
Designed by Simone Legno, the rock-star artist behind the tokidoki brand, Meletta and the tokidoki for MIMOBOT collection launched at New York Comic Con on April 18th. Pick one up now to get one of the limited run of this exciting new MIMOBOT series.

It’s all about love

Are you so in love with your girlfriend, but your bank account does not have the necessary Benjamins available to get her a shiny, big rock for her birthday? Well, if she is interested in computers and can’t live without gizmos and accessories, I am sure she will be touched by your gesture of picking up this heart-shaped microSD memory card reader. Well, if she ain’t too happy about it, let her know it not only works with regular microSD memory cards but microSDHC cards as well, making it future proof just like how you are to her. Of course, she’ll most probably prefer an iPhone instead, but hey - didn’t mom used to tell me that it is the thought that counts? I guess that generation is long gone, replaced by the current capitalist consumerism mentality that has dragged us into this global financial turmoil we’re in today.

Pantech Duo now in red

With Valentine’s Day coming round the corner, it makes perfect sense for retailers to try pocket as many consumer dollars as possible during this busy period in order to capitalize on your feelings for your loved one. AT&T is no different, hoping to gain a small bonus by releasing its Pantech Duo dual-sliding handset in red. Other than the change in color, everything else inside remains the same as a standard Pantech Duo including 3G support, a 240 x 320 resolution display, powered by Windows Mobile 6 and providing support for push email services, AT&T’s Mobile Music Service, and AT&T’s Video Service.

Get it Off Your Chest, Anonymously

Valentine’s Day is next week, and if you’re still wondering who you will be spending it with, then take matters into your own hands by asking him out. I hear guys like a woman who knows what she wants, but if you don’t have the nerve to do it face to face, maybe you can break the ice by sending him an anonymous invitation. HadtoSay.com allows you to do just that after you create an account. Then all you have to do is send him a note via a masked email or note card, and wait for him to read it. The note will have a secret PIN and ID number that will point him to the site, where he can opt to leave a message for you too. All messages are public, so you might want to take the conversation elsewhere when things start heating up. Watch the video below to see how you can lure in a few dates next week. Read more
