Violet Blue’s Sexy Geeks of 2007 List is Out!

Posted on 28 December 2007 by Techie Diva

There’s a list for everything at the end of the year: Top Gadgets, Worst Gadgets, Most Innovative, Best Products, Hottest TV Geeks, blah, blah, blah. But what about a list of real sexy geeks? You know, the people who bring you all that juicy tech coverage, fun videoblogs, start their own companies, and entertain you year round? Well, sexy geekstress herself, Violet Blue, has published her annual list of the Top Ten Sexy Geeks 2007, and guess what? I’m #9! Yes, me! I was very surprised, and extremely honored I made the list. Thanks Violet and anyone who nominated me! There are a lot of names you’ll recognize on the list like Veronica Belmont (Mahalo), Leah Culver (Pownce), Tanja Andrews (Freshtopia), Sean Bonner (Metroblogging), and sexy runner-ups Ryan Block (Engadget), Brian Lam (Gizmodo), and Zadi Diaz (JetSet/Epic-Fu). Anyway, check it out, and let us know your favorite sexy geek of 2007 was. Happy New Year! (Tiny Nibbles)

Rockband or Wii Giveaway?

Posted on 15 December 2007 by Techie Diva

Happy Holidays Techie Divas and Techie Dudes! We’re giving away several goody bags, and will continue to do so all the way until next year. Currently we’re holding the “My New Year’s Resolutions Bag” Giveaway sponsored by our friends over at Firebox.com so make sure you enter the contest before January 4th. We’ll be selecting a winner on January 5th, so get cracking!

I wanted to take this opportunity to announce the winners of the “Win This Bag” sponsored by Monster Cable where we gave away a goody bag filled with an iCarPlay or LRG Case, iSplitter, iCableLink, and iSonicast. We want to congratulate Bryan Quan and Mark Delfs, who will soon receive their goody bags, hopefully before Christmas. We’ve also selected Neal Peterson as the winner of the Zone Alarm Security Suite, and we’re looking for a second winner, so send us your entry.

Ok, now for the important question. We will be giving lots of new stuff in the coming year, so we need your help deciding what to give away on our next big contest. So the question is Rockband or Wii? Let us know in the poll below, and we may surprise you soon. Keep checking back for more free stuff.

Family Circle Back To School Issue

Posted on 17 August 2007 by Techie Diva

It’s back-to-school shopping season, and the ladies over at Yahoo! Tech (that’s me) and Family Circle got together to select a handful of electronics your kids will want/need this season. If you’re at the supermarket or bookstore, pick up an issue for shopping ideas. You can also check out the list over at Parents.com. I’d love to get some feedback from you guys on what techie toys your kids are actually adding to the school supply list, that’s always interesting.Familycircle

The Clintons Spoof’s the Sopranos

Posted on 20 June 2007 by Techie Diva

Bill and Hillary Clinton spoofed the Sopranos’ finale to announce the winning song selected by users for her campaign. Celine Dion’s "You and I" was the winner, but nobody seemed to care about the choice when Bill and Hill caused quite a ruckus with their spoof video. It’s actually pretty funny, if you’re familiar with the Soprano’s finale (and who isn’t?).

Click-To-Call Services

Posted on 17 June 2007 by Techie Diva

CbsconsumerwatchSat down with CBS 5 in San Francisco to talk about CCube and some click-to-call services available out there. If you haven’t heard about Ccube, it may be because they are a new social network that lets people call each other. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to gradually get to know people I meet online before they can call my cell phone. One of their selling points is that you can use their click-to-call button on sites like Craigslist, so you don’t expose your number. The problem I see here is the other party may not want to sign up with your social network to be able to call you, especially if they’ll only use it once. My recommendation here was to check with your VOIP provider, since they may already offer Click-to-Call services. If you want people on Craigslist to call you, check out numbr. This site offers local numbers that forward calls to your real number. You can set the expiration time, and buyers don’t have to sign up for the service to call you. Plus the service is free. You can read my article on CCube, and click to call services on Yahoo Tech, and watch a video here.

Do Geeks Make Better Lovers?

Posted on 11 May 2007 by Techie Diva

Sexy20geek710945 Despite the fact that I write and keep up with technology on a daily basis, I don’t consider myself to be a full-blown geek. I’m more of an enthusiast, than a hard core geek. Technology is a part of our lives now more than ever, so I fully embrace tech, gadgets, and whatever else makes my life easier and exciting. But does that make geeks out of all of us? I’m not sure. Regina Lynn, who has an interesting sex blog over at Wired, put a list together of the Top 10 Real Reasons why Geeks Make Better Lovers. Sounds like the geeks know how to channel their animal side during sexy time. What do you think? Met any great geek lovers lately? Do you consider yourself a geek? Anyway, here are her top 10 reasons:

"THANKS TECHIEDIVA BECAUSE NOT ONLY DO YOU SHOW ME THE LATEST TECH AND HELP ME LEARN A LOT MORE ABOUT GADGETS, BUT YOU ARE GIVING ME A NINTENDO WII=)!!!!

THANKS TO YOU, I CAN GIVE MY BOYFRIEND THE BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT, AND HAVE FUN PLAYING IT TOGETHER!!!!"

We love giving things away on the site, especially things you can’t easily find anywhere else. In case you missed it, Norma Armendariz was the lucky winner of our Nintedo Wii contest last week. We emailed her to give her the good news, and asked her what she planned to do with her Wii. Her letter was so sweet, and she even gave us a picture of herself in her Techie Diva pose.  Isn’t she cute? Again Congrats to Norma, and don’t forget to keep checking back for more details about our Summer contest!

And the Wiiiiinner is….

Posted on 02 May 2007 by Techie Diva

Wiipink As you know, we’ve been running a contest over the last few months giving Techie Diva readers a chance to win a Nintendo Wii console. Wiis are hard to come by these days, so we were extremely excited about getting our hands on one for this contest. The Nintendo Wii contest ended last night, and today we’ve randomly selected a winner.

Our congratulations go out to:

Norma Armendariz!
She’s the lucky Wiinnner!

[Ok girlfriend, if you’re reading this, you better check your email]

Norma signed up for our contest through our Daily Buzz newsletter. You go girl!

I want to thank everyone who entered the contest through our newsletter, and /or filled our survey! I wish I had a Wii for every single one of you! Thanks for all your kind comments too. I don’t want to make any promises, but keep checking back. We have another cool contest in store this Summer, so tell us what you would want to win.

Who knows, it might be another Wii or even an Xbox 360 Elite…
