T-Mobile G1, Android Powered Phone

It’s out today. The T-Mobile G1, first Android Powered phone available to the public. Many have waited a long time for this with the whispers of new things to come and a different take on things by Google.
It certainly looks sharp from the videos online but I’d like to get my hands on one so that I could really give you insight into what it can and cannot do. I’m sure, like with anything, there’s positives and negatives of the machine. I certainly found that with the iPhone (I can sing the praises but also look at the things that really BUG me about it, in other words) and other mobile devices that have had big releases like this G1.
Here is what T-Mobile has to say about the new G1 they are offering:
The web, wherever you go.
Experience the web just like on your computer, wherever you are with your T-Mobile G1. The browser makes your web experience fluid and natural by integrating it with other applications and features on your phone. Click on a phone number from a website, and your phone will dial it. Save images from the web as wallpaper. The list goes on and on.
Is it a dream come true for you? If so, visit this site and check out all the features–and information on how to get YOUR hands on one!

Tripp-Lite, Not Just Protection
October 7, 2008 by Cat

Tripp-Lite doesn’t just offer power protection products, but they have several other areas of expertise that they are marketing. One area of interest for me was their notebook/laptop speakers. With no need for an external power supply, simply plug these into your available USB port and listen to your favorite music or movie on your notebook.
I have been using my laptop far more than my desktop computer and this was one area I wanted more sound without an outrageous pricetag. Tripp-Lite offers their simple Portable Speakers and an upgraded version of Premier Mobile Theater Speakers. With only a $20 difference ($39.95 and $59.95 respectively) it’s easy to choose which pair would be right for you.
They come in silver or black and silver (for the premier version) and are small enought to pack into your laptop for carrying elsewhere. The Premier version comes with a carrying bag to make it easier for you to pack them up, but either pair would serve the purpose of sharing good sound with others via your notebook.

Myvu Crystal, Personal Media Viewer
October 7, 2008 by Cat
Myvu’s personal media viewers come in several models and I was able to review the Crystal version recently. I hooked it up to an iPod and
watched a few videos while trying out the sound, too. Then, I went to gaming and enjoyed playing a few rounds to test the viewer out. Then, I hooked it to the television and set up a movie to see if the quality was good.
It worked a charm on the iPod while viewing videos that I had downloaded to it. The television setup wasn’t as easy for me to figure out but I was able to find the correct wires and set the Myvu glasses up to the television. The video was fine but when I did some gaming with the headset on the color was sacrificed some. Not a big issue, as you probably would use this on the go and not at home.
I see this set working wonderfully for airports and flights, road trips, and the ocassional movie at home (if you live with others that don’t enjoy your movie choices, it’s perfect). The set is light and I wish there was some way to minimize the number of wires needed, but once I got used to using them, all went well.
The Crystal model is available in black or amber and costs around $299 and can be found at Best Buy and other electronic stores. They also offer refurbished viewers for the cost conscious!

Polaroid PoGo Zink!

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the new Polaroid PoGo Zink printer. Zink = Zero Ink and that’s one quick way to get consumers interested in a product with ink prices so high on printers. You can typically buy a cheap printer but once you start using the ink, the price goes up quick.
This fancy little product is super fun to use with your mobile phone. I took it to the office and snapped pictures of our fish tank then beamed the photos over to the printer and showed off the features to my co-workers. The Zink website has some enhancements to make your photos even more fun to toy with. Here are details directly from the Zink site:
Polaroid PoGo™ - short for Polaroid-on-the-go - is a pocket-sized, ink-free digital photo printer that produces full-color photos wirelessly from Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and via PictBridge from digital cameras. Weighing only eight ounces, Polaroid PoGo™ provides consumers with a convenient solution for sharing digital images trapped on cell phones and digital cameras. Connecting via Bluetooth or PictBridge, Polaroid PoGo™ uses a revolutionary ZINK™ Zero Ink™ Printing Technology to produce borderless, full-color, 2-inch by 3-inch prints in less than 60 seconds. The Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Mobile Printer is available now.
Amazing technology that I think will be enhanced even more to be utilized and built-in to mobile phones and laptops for the future.

iRobot Negotiator

More affordable for local police and fire departments, the iRobot Corp. has introduced a small robot for these professionals to use in specific circumstances. The iRobot Negotiator is designed with the ability to climb stairs and detect chemicals according to specifications given. The PackBot 510 has been used, but as an unmanned ground robot, it is larger and more complex than the iRobot version.
These robots offer life-saving alternatives for cities to use and with iRobot making them lighter, less complex, and easier to afford, I have a feeling they will be used more. Local agencies will be able to look into using these and iRobot Corp. is making these available by the end of 2008. The company is known for their behavior-based robots that incorporate navigation, mobility, manipulation, and artifical intelligence.
I have seen a few of these robots at work (the home gutter cleaner is my favorite) and they do a fine job. Visit the main site for more information.

Samsung TL34HD
Fairly new on the list of Samsung’s digital camera releases is the TL34HD, in a slim design with features that will keep you snapping. Following the NV24HD, this model is more advanced and easy to use. A 14.7 megapixel resolution gives you beautiful precise pictures and with an optical zoom of 3.6x you won’t miss a moment. Movie stabilizer for those video memories you couldn’t quite catch in just a photo, and successive recording mode so you can pause for any interruptions.
With an all metal build, the design is sleek and sturdy, plus small dimensions of 3.68” x 2.34” x 0.80”
The Smart Touch 2.0 user interface will make changing your options and menu items up painless and with HDMI connectivity nothing will slow you down. 720p video recording with a high 30 frames per second is great for most anything you want to capture on video. Includes a 28mm Schneider lens for the best shots. Other models are currently available if these features aren’t what you are looking for, but look for this coming in September from Samsung.

Handheld GPS from Garmin
There are so many choices when it comes to a GPS system but one name you will hear often is Garmin, and they don’t disappoint with the new handheld Garmin Colorado 400t. With an easy to use click-wheel navigation system so you can flip through menu options and set waypoints like a pro, you will figure the use of this out pretty quick and be on your way. 3-D view is available so that you can see vertical grades on your route. I am thinking they were after the active group of people that likes to tie the GPS to a caribineer (it comes with one!) and set out on hikes, ski tours, kayak trips, or river fishing excursions.
Garmin also states the following about the handheld:
“With Colorado 400t you can share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches wirelessly with other Colorado users. Now you can send your favorite hike to your buddy to enjoy or the location of a cache to find. Sharing data is easy. Just select “send” to transfer your information to other Colorado units.”
I’m sure it’s perfectly usable on the road, but with a handheld GPS why limit yourself to just one way of travel? Comes with preloaded topo maps of frequent spots and works with a Mac but not with the included trip and waypoint software, you have to get online for compatibility, unfortunately. But, that won’t slow me down, as I’m not a Mac user. Comes in at a sweet $640 so plan those trips and don’t worry about getting lost!

Wacom’s Bamboo Pen Tablet uses handwriting recognition with your Vista OS (and OS X) to give you a quick and fun way to create. Using the pen, you can use simple taps and touches to utilize the handwriting features, write directly on digital documents, draw pictures or graphs, and even create your personal signature for Emails or notes. The tablet supports widescreen displays and has 512 levels of pressure sensitivity on the pen and eraser. A textured surface makes you feel like you are writing on paper, for a more natural feeling as you scribble.
Using Mac Inkwell or Microsft Windows Vista, with Office 2007, you can handwrite your Emails and quickly go back to navigating your desktop. Set up your shortcuts and use the four Express Keys for scrolling and zooming in on documents as you work. There is also a Touch Ring on the tablet that you can use with your fingers, if you do not want to only work with the pen. High resolution and 21 sq. inches of workspace gives you plenty of movement for even the most important projects.
Read user reviews of the product on the site, too.

If you are a hostess to many parties or you just get particular about your stemware, the Architec AirDry will be the perfect addition to your kitchen. Not only does it serve a purpose, but this AirDry will also make your decor clean and neat, with your beautiful stemware on display. With high quality rubber cushions on the hooks that hold your glasses, both small stemmed and larger stemmed. The steel look will have you wanting to start planning your next get-together so that you can show off your streak-free, spot-free glasses to your guests.
The Architec AirDry has an easy to store design, allowing you to break it down for when you’re not using it. I would bet that wouldn’t happen often, though, because it certainly looks to be a nice display item. Functional and easy to use makes the AirDry a must-have for your kitchen. This stands at around 11.5″ when fully assembled and holds up to 4 glasses. You can find the AirDry for around $15 at sites like Broadway Panhandler.
