Motion Responsive Sportswear

Posted on 19 September 2008 by BabyReaps

Kerri Wallace, a designer from the UK wants to elevate her form of work/art to another level where sports and fitness wear are concerned. In this aspect, she hopes to rely on motion responsive textiles in her research project, dubbed ‘Motion Responsive Sportswear’. This new range will rely on heart rate and body temperature in order to trigger a visual representation of the activity level by changing the color pattern found on the sports apparel. These colors are printed using temperature specific thermo-chromic and thermo-chromic liquid crystal inks. I wonder what would Usain Bolt’s running outfit look like if he was dressed in one of these whenever he rules the tracks - will he be too fast that the outfit spontaneously combusts?
