Nokia Morph concept

Posted on 26 February 2008 by BabyReaps

nokia-morph.jpgNokia has teamed up with the University of Cambridge to parade their new stretchable and flexible device known as Morph. This futuristic concept handset comes in a lovely shade of green and is pretty flexible, being able to stretch and bend into all sorts of shapes, hence its name. Features of using nanotechnology in developing such a handset thanks to the use of flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces results in a whole new user experience - no longer do you have to worry about breaking your phone or having it getting nicked once it drops onto the floor. Word has it that Nokia hopes to bring some elements of the Morph into its high end devices within the next seven years. I would love to see a self-cleaning display - say goodbye to pesky fingerprints forever!

DS Lite gets new skin

Posted on 26 February 2008 by BabyReaps

The Nintendo DS Lite is one handheld console that has certainly gotten more than its fair share of accessories to date, and you can be sure that the marketing machine isn’t going to stop anytime soon - hence, the Loyton Leather Tuning Skin Case for the DS. While the word ‘leather’ is used, no animals were skinned in the process as it just has a leather feel to it and nothing more. This is achieved by embossing a simulated leather texture onto Polycarbonate - that ought to get all those animal activists off your back. Each case comes in two pieces, where one protects the top while the other prevents the bottom from picking up scratches. The hinge is left exposed, and overall the Loyton Leather Tuning Skin Case looks like a pretty sweet deal since they don’t seem to obstruct any of the controls. Each case retails for $24.99.

Toy Quest Touch Table

Posted on 25 February 2008 by BabyReaps

While Microsoft’s Windows operating system is pretty convoluted and tend to bring more agony than joy with its famous Blue Screen of Death, they seem to be doing pretty OK when it comes to kids’ toys. Take the Toy Quest Touch Table for example - this nifty little plaything is a 21″ touch screen monitor, enabling kids to play games on it in addition to other educational features such as accessing Google Earth to learn more about geography. The Toy Quest Touch Table also features a photo viewer, DVD playback and MP3 support. Will you drop $499 for this or prefer to get a heavy set of encyclopedias instead?

USB Miss Perfect

Posted on 25 February 2008 by BabyReaps

If you are worried that your man won’t have you in his mind the moment he leaves home, why not try a little psychology instead with the USB Ms. Perfect? This nifty little device will compliment him along with the added advantage of flirting with him all day long - just keep your fingers crossed that your mug in the included tiny photo frame isn’t replaced by that hot new secretary who never seem to have enough work to keep her at her desk. USB Ms. Perfect works this way - you wave your hand at it and she will start spouting some lovey-dovey messages, although “Remember to buy milk on the way home” or “Did you put your shoes away?” fall under the “Old and married” category. At $14.99, this makes for the perfect gag gift.

Zippo goes blue

Posted on 24 February 2008 by BabyReaps

Zippos are highly sought after lighters as they boast the ability to keep a flame alive no matter how strong the wind around is blowing. Well, the company has kept up to tradition with a new Zippo lighter known as Zippo BLU - this lighter trades in the old fuel for hot-burning butane based flame, resulting in a blue flame (if you’ve studied science, you’d know that blue colored flame burns much hotter than those orange tongues of death). In addition to being hotter to light up your cancer sticks, it also stands straight even in the wind. Just in case your friends can’t tell the difference between an standard Zippo and the BLU version, this model comes with an updated external design while maintaining a one-hand operation, the trademark flint-wheel ignition system, and lifetime warranty for over $30 a pop.

BELLPERRE croc leather handsets

Posted on 24 February 2008 by BabyReaps

Crocodile skin was only good for handbags, or so I thought. BELLPERRE has upped the ante with their new and upcoming range of croc leather handsets. What’s interesting about these is the fact that the handsets feature no plastic part, and are handcrafted from premium leather, steel, gold, hardwood and various other high end materials. Since the handset is based on a modular construction model, it ensures every single one of them will be able to be tailored specifically to one’s taste and lifestyle. With more than 200 colors to choose from, you’ll probably have a field day selecting your favorite set up. BELLPERRE cell phones are built from scratch in the Netherlands, and no pricing detail has been confirmed as at press time although they ought to roll out in European markets this June.

Posted on 22 February 2008 by techiediva

Highsnobiety reports that Nintendo is collaborating with Japanese clothing label Bape in an upcoming portable gaming console version covered in Bape characters. Two versions will be available, one white and one gold. I’m not one to keep up with hip designers, but if you’re in the know, these exclusive DS Lite console will be hot items when they’re released on April 1st.

Posted on 22 February 2008 by techiediva

oscarland.jpg

Throwing an award-winning Oscar party is never easy, but you can add a touch of glamour by following the tips I put together over at  Yahoo! Tech. Honestly, I can’t stop finding great tips, so I’ll be posting a few more on this post. In the meantime, check out these sites below to find movie-themed drinks, food, and even music.

  1. Invites: Evite.comhas lots of invitations you can use to get your party started.
  2. Food: Epicurious has put together five dishes in honor of all the Best Picture nominees. Cook up a formal British dinner for Atonement or cook up a hearty Southern meal to honor No Country for Old Men. Simply genious!
  3. Drinks: That’s  the Spirit has plenty of drink recipies, but if you want to keep it current check out Defamer for the scoop on that Blue Slushee in honor of Juno.
  4. Music: iTunes.com has the latest soundtracks for Juno andMichael Clayton.
  5. Ballots: Print out official  ballots over at Oscar.com and get your guests involved.
  6. Gear: You have to watch the Oscars in high-def so if you don’t have the biggest HDTV, then talk to friends who do and try to either co-host the party at their house or buy a projector if you can’t borrow one.  Also ask your friends to bring their digital cameras to take plenty of pictures, and break out the digital photo frames to play a slideshow of all the nominees.

Share your ideas below.

Virtual Reality Controlled by Thoughts

Posted on 22 February 2008 by techiediva

emotiveheadset.jpgFor years,  gamers have wondered how science was going to make their experience in virtual worlds more real. VR goggles were one way of doing it, but what about mind control? Why not? The technology has been available for years, so why not use it for a little R and R time? Well, gamers everywhere should be rejoicing at what could be the biggest breakthrough coming to the consumer world. Emotiv has announced the upcoming release of it’s sensor ladden neuro headset capable of picking up brain waves that allows the user to move objects and control their avatar in a virtual setting .  This thing can pick up 30 different emotions, facial expressions, and cognitive action so gamers have plenty of ways to interact with others using thought control. The bad news is gamers will need to practice their poker face a lot more because this headset will makes impossible to hide your emotions behind a computer. The gaming headset is only in prototype form, but will be selling for $299 later this year along with a game. It may someday be compatible with other games, but for now you’ll have to exercise your  mind with whatever game they decide to include. Tennis, anyone?

iStraw to the rescue

Posted on 22 February 2008 by BabyReaps

Falling ill is always a bummer no matter which part of the world you’re at. Sometimes when we head out backpacking or travel on our honeymoon, we tend to take drinking water for granted - and that could come back and haunt us should we fall sick while consuming local tap water or ice cubes. The iStraw prevents such a scenario as it comes with a special membrane, featuring micro-filtration technology that cleans your water, resulting in protection against water borne bacteria and protozoa that are present in the drinking water and ice of many countries. It claims to reduce up to 99.99999% of all waterborne bacteria, including Giardia and Cryptosporidium. Each iStraw can filter up to 500 litres of water when used properly. Take no chance today and pick up the iStraw for $39.99. If only it came with a volume counter - then you’d know when to change the iStraw.
