Wake Up with Originality

Posted on 17 October 2007 by Cat

Do you like to be different?  This alarm clock will certainly allow you that opportunity.  With a hand blown glass tube that carries a nice current, you won’t be disappointed each morning after hitting snooze on your old clock, this one will wake you up with a jolt!  This Lightning Alarm Clock dares to be different.

No, it won’t actually jolt your body with the white lightning effects but it will wake your senses up and make the noise and give you the sights of being shocked.  With buzzing electric charges and a super bright lightning display, I doubt you’ll have much of an issue waking up.

You might not have a great start to your day, though.  I guess it depends on what type of personality you have.  Maybe you like thrills to start your day instead of a relaxing slow waking experience.

For about $50 you can add this clock with its hour, minute and seconds display to your home decor.  Choose the AC power adapter or two AA batteries for power and set your wake time.  Pretty soon you’ll be "charged up" for the day.  Hey, it looks fun at least.

Google Competes with iPhone?

Posted on 17 October 2007 by Cat

Google tries to stay a step ahead, and with the iPhone’s fast popularity, you know that they won’t sit still for long.  In comes the Google Phone!  Will you have to pay a hefty $300-$600 for it?  No, this one is planned to really "wow" you with FREE access.

What do you have to pay (because we all know that free really isn’t always free) instead of money?  Well, you simply have to give up some time and review ads that Google throws at you.  I find that my time is precious but I would definitely opt in on this phone if it meant I could access information on the fly.

This prototype cell phone will offer you free stuff in trade for advertising dollars that it gleans from marketers.  What we’re not sure that you get is actual phone access, a touch screen, an MP3 player and the other features that the iPhone can certainly boast.

I do think that if Google really does work to release this and it only has the benefit of being able to search for things on the fly, including maps, phone numbers, and all things Google, it would still be well worth it.  Wait, it’s free…I guess it would simply be well worth your time to try it out, then.

Electronic Tattoo for the Needle-Phobic

Posted on 17 October 2007 by Techie Diva

I’ve always hated tattoos because they’re so permanent, but what if your tattoo only showed up when it was stimulated by touch?  Again, Philips Design is pushing the boundaries–and creepiness factor–with tattoos that work much like electronic ink. Here’s what they say about it. "The SKIN; Tattoo project investigates the use of electronic ink that would allow people to have dynamic tattoos with an infinite number of display options. In much the same way as make-up is put on and taken off to suit the occasion, a tattoo could alter whenever desired. The tattoos could even change in response to gestures or emotions, which opens up novel ways of communicating and interacting with others."

"The purpose of the SKIN; Tattoo Probe, however, is not to discover whether Philips should be involved in high-tech body adornment. "We are interested in the concept of emotional sensing, because this may well have a major influence on the interfaces of the future," says Clive van Heerden, Senior Director of design-led innovation at Philips Design. “We have simply chosen electronic tattoos as a medium for showing our explorations."

Watch the video, you’ll see what they’re talking about. [Philips Design]

Skintile: Guess My Mood

Posted on 17 October 2007 by Techie Diva

Skintile1

Mood sensing jewelry has been around for some time, but Philips is hoping to get your feedback regarding their latest creation in collaboration with a European project by STELLA. The new wireless mood sensing, stick-ons called Skintile explore the wearers emotional and physiological state of mind by lighting up accordingly. They really fail to tell us what the colors mean, but the site says the sticky tattoo, "explores a range of functionalities in new product forms that are playful, sensual, mood affected, bio activity stimulated, and arousal enhancing. It is  a semi disposable, bio compatible, non-allergenic, breathable, mass customizable, self contained body worn accessory." It’s kinda of a strange way to guess a woman’s mood, when most of the time we have no problem telling you how we feel. As a matter of fact, most of the time, you don’t even want to know. [

Posted on 17 October 2007 by Techie Diva

I don’t even know how to start this post without sounding bitchy, so I’ll leave it up to you, our wonderful discerning readers, to tell us what you think about the "Call Me Panty." It’s pink, it’s got a pocket for your cell phone, and the tag line is "Simply turn your phone to vibrate."  Gag! Oh, and you’ll either love or hate the videos. Peace out! This PS3 plays no game, but fills hungry stomachs

Posted on 16 October 2007 by BabyReaps

chocolate-ps3

If you have a sweet tooth, chances are you’d be looking out for some candy instead of a PS3 console, right? Kids in Perugia, Italy, were surprised when Sony recently released a stack of 150 chocolate PS3 consoles at the Eurochocolate festival. While they won’t be able to provide you with the latest in entertainment and gaming, at the very least they’ll be able to help feed your sugar cravings albeit for a while. The release of this chocolate PS3 coincided with the unveiling of the latest 40GB SKU PS3, which is essentially a stripped down version of the 60GB and 80GB models.

RRoD card sends condolences

Posted on 16 October 2007 by BabyReaps

rrod-condolence

While the Xbox 360 has a whole library of fantastic software, it is the hardware that has let many people down to date, with many a gamer experiencing the dreaded Red Ring of Death (RRoD) phenomenon. While RRoD victims have been placated by Microsoft thanks to a lengthy 3-year extended warranty, it still is no fun having to send your console back to the manufacturer and sit down twiddling your thumbs while your neighbor continues to rack up achievement points during your "downtime". This RRoD card is the perfect gift for anyone whom you know is suffering from an Xbox 360 failure as it features a string of red crystals that have been glued in the same pattern as a RRoD, with the comforting words "May this card help console you during this difficult time. I am very sorry for your loss." inside. You can pick up one of these for $4 from Etsy.

iRobot ConnectR webcam on wheels

Posted on 15 October 2007 by BabyReaps

irobot-iconnectrThe iRobot ConnectR is actually a webcam that boasts wheels, wide angle and zoom modes that moves around, helping you keep in touch with those back home even when you’re holidaying somewhere halfway across the world as long as there is a decent Internet connection in the vicinity. Hopefully the batteries in this thing will be able to last the pace though. The asking retail price of $500 is rather steep in my opinion, but it will definitely help bridge the age gap as well as digital divide between grandpa and little Johnny. Kinda reminds me of one of those automatic vacuum cleaners.

Posted on 15 October 2007 by BabyReaps

jedi-choker

Fans of the Star Wars sci-fi movies will definitely recognize the power of this handmade Jedi Choker that comes complete with a blue or green lightsaber charm. The choker cord itself measures 20" long and is crocheted with 100% cotton blue and green thread. The hand-drawn and colored plastic lightsaber charm is blue in color, measuring roughly 1.5" long. Jedi letters are constructed from recycled keyboard keys that have undergone washing and sanitizing processes, followed by a filing and drilling process that make up the cute end product. Since Christmas is creeping upon us really soon, it makes perfect sense to pick one of these up for the geek in your life. Each Jedi Choker retails for $24.

Ankle Bracelets: New Fall Fashion Accessory?

Posted on 14 October 2007 by Techie Diva

Remember that little article we published about the SCRAM Bracelets, and how they work? It seems these alcohol monitoring devices just can’t stay off celebrity ankles. We’ve seen them on Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez, and Eve, but I never expected them to actually become a fashion accessory. The black ugly tracking device was spotted walking down the runway at a recent Karl Lagerfield fashion show. Not sure if this was a joke or if the model wearing it was actually supposed to be wearing one, but isn’t this trend going too far?  Via Fashion WeeklyAnklefashion
