Circular LCD developed for in-vehicle use

Posted on 18 October 2007 by BabyReaps

circular-lcd-displayToshiba Matsushita Display has just released a new kind of LCD display that comes in a circular design, targeting installation in instrument panels for automotive applications. It is this piece of news that made me realize there aren’t any circular LCDs available for consumer electronics yet - or am I wrong? This newly developed technology boasts an outer diameter of 75mm, including the driving circuit and works great for tightly confined space that is normally found in a motor vehicle instrument pane. Not only that, it does not break up the flow of the styling and design of the instrument panel itself. This is but a prototype at point of publishing, but it already can display a stunning 260,000 colors simultaneously. Can’t wait for the final version to be released.
