Yet another luxury USB flash drive

Posted on 29 August 2007 by BabyReaps

stdupont-bling-usbWant to be different from the rest of your colleagues at the office? Why not sport different stationery, or in this case, a (much) more expensive USB flash drive? After all, it seems as though manufacturers these days attempt to stand out from the rest of the pack by slapping on some Swarovski crystals and deem those as ‘elegant’ solutions. The S.T. Dupont USB flash drives are different, however, as they come covered in expensive materials that warrant and equally sky high price tag. Known as the Côte D’Azur USB Memory Stick, they are made out of palladium and lacquer, thoroughly covered in S.T. Dupont’s very own "iconic diamond head pattern".

Don’t be fooled by the pattern - it is just that and not diamonds, else how would the diamonds be reflected in the $700 price tag? It will come in turquoise blue, soft pink, and black colors at just one capacity - 2GB.

Creative Japan unleashes Travelsound i50

Posted on 29 August 2007 by BabyReaps

creative-travelsound-i50The Japan division of Creative has just lifted the veil on the Travelsound i50, bringing yet another portable speaker for the iPod Shuffle to an already oversaturated market. Will the Travelsound i50 actually find relevance in today’s market? That’s a bit hard to say - as you know, different strokes for different folks. I must admit that the Travelsound i50 does look pretty trendy though, but do be careful where you want to publicly share your favorite tunes with as not everyone will appreciate your eclectic choice of audio.

All you need to do is snap your 2G iPod Shuffle on top of the Travelsound i50, place the translucent protective cover on top and you’re good to go. It even comes with a carabiner-like loop that makes hooking this speaker around your belt loop or backpack all the more easier. Since the speaker comes with its own rechargeable battery (via USB), you don’t have to worry about exhausting your tiny Shuffle’s battery any faster. The Creative Travelsound retails for approximately $69 in Japan, with no word of a worldwide announcement.

Sony makes inroads to living room entertainment

Posted on 29 August 2007 by BabyReaps

sony-vaio-lt

As if Sony wasn’t content with dominating the living room during the last generation of video game consoles with the PS2, the Japanese electronics giant attempts to outmuscle the Xbox 360 with their PS3 effort, but so far that attempt is a stuttering one at best despite packing in the most technology when compared to the other two current generation consoles. Sony isn’t giving up anytime soon though, with the release of the Vaio LT HD PC/TV that functions as a miniature home theater system thanks to the included Blu-ray drive and a CableCard slot.

It sure looks sweet, packing in a 22" widescreen LCD display (although I don’t see it replacing your living room HDTV anytime soon), adequate amounts of RAM and hard drive space, and a video card. An Intel Core 2 Duo processor runs all the proceedings from within, ensuring more than enough processing power to get things going. The standard LT model retails for $1,900 and does not come with Blu-ray capability - you’ll have to fork out an additional grand for that.

Widex hearing aid costs a bomb

Posted on 28 August 2007 by BabyReaps

widex-gold-hearing-aidWhat you see here is no iPod clone - instead it is way too unrefined in design to come out of Cupertino. The device in question is actually a hearing aid that takes the opposite route of conventional hearing aids. Instead of being as discreet as possible, this hearing aid from Widex practically shouts to announce its existence by virtue of being plated in 24-karat gold complete with 220 embedded diamonds for that regal touch. The price will definitely put it out of reach of most, considering nobody I know in their right mind would fork out $50,000 for such a device.

These are diamonds we’re talking about here and not the usual plastering of Swarovski crystals that attempt to look elegant. It even comes with a wireless remote that is also plated in gold and studded with diamonds, hence adding on the to the final price. I must admit, I thought this was a Bluetooth headset at first glance, and most people will probably associate it as that as well.

LG launches Cyon Crystal Edition in Korea

Posted on 28 August 2007 by BabyReaps

lg-cyon-crystal-editionOne of the ways you can stand out from the rest of the crowd when it comes to cellphones would be getting it skinned, preferably by a company or person of notable repute. That way, your handset will definitely be different from all the other stock cellphones of the same model. The other way would be to pick up a designer handset, and we have had quite a few in the past including the D&G Gold RAZR V3 that was released a couple of years back. The LG Cyon Crystal Edition is a clamshell handset that comes with crystal and flower patterns, designed by Robert Ryan who is famous for ‘Pau Smith’. Features include a 2.2" color display, an external color display, and shortcut keys located at the top flip.

The LG Cyon Crystal Edition comes with a price tag of approximately $425 after conversion which is pretty affordable (relatively) for a designer enhanced cellphone. Unfortunately at that price point, the LG Cyon Crystal Edition will be extremely accessible to many people, so chances are if you own one of these, do expect to see a fair number roaming around the subway stations and streets.

DUO-CARE wristtop monitor

Posted on 28 August 2007 by BabyReaps

duo-careLooks like diabetes patients seem to be benefiting more and more from well thought out products that don’t look unwieldy unlike the ones of yore. The latest of such devices include the DUO-CARE that is actually a portable device strapped to the wrist that can measure your glucose levels in addition to blood pressure. With the ability to track the levels of either from the comfort of your own home (or virtually anywhere you are at the moment), you no longer need to make trips to a local clinic or the home of someone else who has such a device.

According to Amy Tenderich at Diabetes Mine, "…those stay-at-home older patients might find this handy if not a bit too space-age for them. In case you’re wondering, blood pressure is measured using the wrist cuff, while you do have to follow the usual procedure — insert a test strip and bleed on it — to get your BG results. Just because you wear it on your wrist doesn’t mean it’s non-invasive." Sorry folks, just like real life, there are no avoiding pricks when it comes to measuring your blood glucose levels.

Thanko USB 2.0 Hub and Fan

Posted on 27 August 2007 by BabyReaps

thank-usb-2-hubSometimes, the office air condition is just not enough to keep the mercury level low. Perspiration is never a good thing when you’re dressed to the nines, and is an even worse condition to be in when you sport a sweaty brow the moment you have that million dollar deal to clinch. Thanko aims to provide some assistance by speeding up the evaporation rate of your sweat with this USB-powered Fan that doubles up as a USB 2.0 hub as well.

Since it takes up a single USB port, the inclusion of a USB hub is definitely handy as you are blessed with additional USB 2.0 ports to plug in a myriad of other devices. The fan boasts a few speed modes that can be adjusted via the small dial located on top. Needless to say, the faster the fan spins, the more noise (and heat) it will generate - I’d advise you to use this with discretion especially when you’re working in a cubicle farm. The hinge is highly adjustable, enabling you to cool down just about any part of your body you fancy. The USB 2.0 Hub and Fan retails for $26 each.

Gaming bling targets females

Posted on 27 August 2007 by BabyReaps

nintendo-necklaceWhat you see here is a pretty unique piece of jewelry - it might look like a contemporary necklace at first glance, featuring a feminine cherry blossom design on one side, but upon flipping it over you are greeted with the immortal image of a classic NES controller, A, B, Select, Start, and all. Talk about living a double life - you now have the bling to show off your gamer street cred to the rest of the world, changing to the regular girl next door when the situation calls for it.

Sarah Lynne from Michigan has handcrafted these beauties, along with other jewelry designs using aluminum, wire, paper, and paint to concoct interesting and appealing accessories for the trendy woman. Each of these offerings has been coated with a highly polished resin glaze, taking the time of completion to three days. Since they’re all handmade, you can be guaranteed that there will never be two of the exact same kind in the world. Other than this hot looking NES controller necklace, Sarah has also created other original pieces such as Pac-Man earrings. You’ll have to act fast if you want this $45 necklace.

USB Mini Greenhouse for your desk

Posted on 27 August 2007 by BabyReaps

usb-greenhouse

Most women prefer fresh flowers compared to plastic ones, and they have very good reason to expect such. After all, most people equate plastic flowers with fake or synthetic love - not unlike real flowers that are often seen as a symbol of reality, where love triumphs all even in the face of adversity. Instead of daydreaming at your working desk, hoping for that Prince Charming to drop by in his business suit and immaculately combed hair with a bouquet of fresh flowers in one hand, why not grow your very own? After all, the woman of the 21st century is definitely pro-active and one to take charge of the situation.

This USB-powered Mini Greenhouse from DreamCheeky allows you to grow your very own plants, and comes with some marigold seeds to get you started. I supposed even those without Green Thumb Skill Level 10 will be able to get these seeds sprouting in a short while. Each Mini Greenhouse is loaded with artificial soil to help you grow those seeds. Software is also bundled into the equation, allowing you to track the growth of your plants via a computer. The USB Mini Greenhouse retails for $19.99.

Portable Laptop Cooling

Posted on 27 August 2007 by Cat

I had the pleasure of using the portable laptop cooling pad during my recent recovery from surgery.  I utilized it prior to me leaving as I sat my laptop up on my desk and worked away.

The Portable Laptop Cooling Pad has a nice blue light and an easily plugged in USB connector to keep power going to the pad.  When I shut down my system, the cooling pad shuts down with it.

During use, you cannot hear the fans of the cooling pad like I thought might be an issue.  They run smoothly and efficiently underneath my laptop, keeping it cool while I use my laptop.

I found it easily props up the laptop for typing with two little black stands that turn to extend higher for just the right angle.  I move the cooling pad to my lap afraid I might get in the way of the fans but it wasn‘t too bad although I would keep this to using it on a flat surface for best performance.

For $23.95 at Convenient Gadgets, you can get your own.
