iPod Shuffle small in size, big in price

Posted on 20 July 2007 by BabyReaps

golden-shuffle

So everyone and their dog has an iPod, or so it seems. While others try to stand out from the crowd by forking out $150 for the ColorWare enhanced iPhone, why not put that group to shame with your iPod Shuffle? Yes, this is no typo - and I’m talking about the humble iPod Shuffle. What makes this so special is the color that it comes in, which has long been a favorite with monarchs and the wealthy throughout the tapestry of time. This is a gold iPod Shuffle, people, and it is available to those who have deep pockets courtesy of Xexoo from Germany.

Made out of 18 carat gold, this iPod Shuffle will definitely be out of reach for the average wage earner since it costs a whopping 14,000 Euros - that’s the rough equivalent of $19,343 to those who are living across the pond. Should a gold exterior be inadequate for your exquisite taste, there is always the option to throw in additional diamonds in the near future. Each customer who picks this up will get round-the-clock customer service, and should your Shuffle experience any problem whatsoever, they’ll send you a replacement.

ColorWare spruces up the iPhone

Posted on 20 July 2007 by BabyReaps

colorware-iphone

So you’ve just dropped $599 for an 8GB iPhone. After hearing news that the iPhone did gangbusters in terms of sales, suddenly, your shiny new toy doesn’t look so exclusive any more, knowing that there are tons of other people out there who are using one as well. Since phones are a very personal thing, why not hand over your iPhone to the folks at ColorWare, where they have the skill and experience to give your beloved handset a new coat of paint in a professional manner? All it will cost you is 25% of the iPhone’s price ($150), and you will be able to enjoy two color choices behind the phone.

If you’re willing to pony up some more dough, there is the option to customize the shiny metal but and Home button on the front part of the phone, the Apple logo behind, as well as the earbuds and dock. Alternatively, you can also pick up a pre-painted iPhone from ColorWare themselves, be it the 4GB or 8GB model. It is interesting to note that after forking out $150 for a custom paint job, you still end up with a huge ColorWare logo behind that doubles up as free advertising. Is it worth voiding the warranty on your iPhone in order to stand out from the crowd? You be the judge.

Hello Kitty to the rescue…for real

Posted on 19 July 2007 by BabyReaps

kitty-generator

I personally think that Hello Kitty is either a love it or hate it affair, and there are ample supporters on either camps with no room available for fence sitters. I, for one, remain in the latter group as I still can’t see what the big deal is about with this pale faced feline that needs to get her face out in the sun more often. Still, that hasn’t stopped the Japanese from producing even more Hello Kitty merchandise by the day, and we have here the Hello Kitty Hand Crank Generator to keep you company in an emergency.

There are the basic emergency functions built inside this Hand Crank Generator, including a tiny port on the side that welcomes a 9V battery whenever you’re tired of turning the crank round and round. A non-electronic compass ensures you won’t lose your bearings, while an LED flashlight provides ample light should the power grid fail you. An AM/FM radio keeps you on top of things, which is essential especially during a disaster, while an emergency alarm helps attract the attention of rescuers. To think that this is meant for use under dire circumstances, I sure hope it is constructed of something more sturdy than cheap plastic.

X-Micro launches Video MP3 player

Posted on 19 July 2007 by BabyReaps

xmicro-videomp3The X-Micro Video MP3 player is an oval-shaped digital audio player that comes in the form of a necklace. Features include a 65k color OLED display (which is more than enough considering the small screen size), an integrated FM radio, a digital voice recorder function, and MP3/WMA file format support. Not only that, it is compatible with WMV, MPEG 4, and AVI video formats, although you won’t be sitting through Lord of the Rings on such a tiny display.

I’ll try not to nitpick here, but I wonder how come X-Micro named this device a Video MP3 player when they could have just taken the tried and true route of being a necklace-style portable media player? Or MP4 player as plenty of Asian manufacturers are wont to use. Still, this is one piece of tech bling that you wouldn’t want to wear in a sweltering environment as you never know just how your sweat might seep in and screw up the whole thing. The X-Micro Video MP3 will come in various capacities of 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB.

Wireless Security Kit for greater peace of mind

Posted on 19 July 2007 by BabyReaps

wireless-security-kitIf you’re a lady who’s loving the single life, it is imperative that you get some form of protection from would-be attackers and stalkers, especially after you’ve had a wild Saturday night out and have to go home alone, unescorted. Granted, while some men might not be up to the task, having someone beside you will definitely make you feel safer as you navigate the dark, unlighted streets at night. This Wireless Security Kit comes in handy to provide you with a certain degree of peace of mind, featuring a Personal Security Alarm that emits a loud, banshee-rivaling 120dB of sound while emitting flashes of light to draw attention (and hopefully, help) in the process. It is powered by a quartet of LR44 batteries.

In addition, this kit also features both a Door Stop Alarm and a Magnetic Window Alarm that share the same ear piercing sound as the Personal Security Alarm when triggered. Great to prevent unwanted guests from snooping around your room if you’re sharing a flat with somebody else, and it also alerts you and your neighbors should some idiot try to make his way into your home through a window. The entire Wireless Security Kit retails for $19.95 which is a pretty good deal IMHO.

Soothe away your stress with this wrist band

Posted on 18 July 2007 by BabyReaps

hivox-stress-relieverBoy do I wish I was back in school, and come to think of it, there is a Peter Pan inside each and everyone of us. Growing up might come with some perks, but adults rarely warn children that there’s this thing called "stress" which tends to pile up all to fast especially in today’s fast-paced world and marketplace. There are many routes to alleviate yourself of stress, and some of them includes getting enough exercise, while others resort to less healthy vices such as smoking and drinking. Here’s a modern take on the ancient method of acupuncture from Hammacher that aims to give you improved sleep time and quality - the HiVox Stress Relieving Wrist Band.

This biofeedback device apparently offers natural relief for stress without the need to pop pills, but instead gently massages and stimulates the pressure points located within your inner left wrist in the same spots the acupuncture needles are supposed to be inserted. This non-invasive procedure costs $79.95 a pop, but for those who can’t afford one, just ask your kid to read from his/her history book and you’re bound to doze off in an instant.

Bling Now in Sony’s Vocabulary

Posted on 18 July 2007 by Techie Diva

Sonyswarovski

These may look like high-tech lipsticks, but they’re actually Sony’s new Walkman Abiste E010 music players coming out of …Japan. Sony Japan is all too hip to adding Swarovski Crytals to these new models due out in September, to be available in blue, gold, pink, purple and black. Each player will be available in 1GB, 2GB and 4GB capacities, and will feature a three-line color LCD so you can see what’s playing. The player also sports a clip-on lanyard that attaches to a woman’s bag or jeans pocket. Via Digital World

They Don’t Melt in Your Mouth or Ears

Posted on 17 July 2007 by Techie Diva

Giz Kids spotted these colorful M&M looking earphones being sold through Elecom, the same company who brought us the rosebud-shaped earphones (you know, the ones we thought were going to be the next big thing). To keep things colorful, the Japanese company will be selling the new Ear Drops collection in every color pictured below, along with a cable winder to keep your earbuds organized.  It’s amazing how much they do look like M&Ms. I just want to bite one. Thin PSP Now in Pastels

Posted on 17 July 2007 by Techie Diva

Sony’s PSP is beautiful in black, but to compete with the Nintendo DS Lite, the company decided to give the PSP a full makeover. A thinner PSP version in pastel colors is set to debut in Japan this September for 19,800 Yen/$162 USD. The colors include Piano Black, Ceramic White, Ice Silver, Rose Pink, Lavender Purple, and Felicia Blue. I love all the colors, although I just don’t see myself getting another PSP. I already have one gathering dust somewhere in the house. Pspcolor

Home and Mobile in One?

Posted on 17 July 2007 by Cat

Need free long distance from home and a convenient mobile option, all in one?  T-Mobile has an offer for you.  The T-Mobile HotSpot @ Home is trying to revolutionize how one depends on mobile access.

With this plan, you get a mobile phone that works with a wireless router to allow you to make and receive unlimited calls via the WiFi you have at home.  This would also include US T-Mobile HotSpot locations around the world.  International calls do incur additional charges but if you live out of state and want to call family, this might be the plan for you.

In addition, not only does it utilize your WiFi based from home and other locations, but if you are out of the area of a HotSpot device from T-Mobile, the phone can still be used like you would use your regular mobile and would pull the minutes based on a T-Mobile plan you chose previously.  It would use your Whenever Minutes that T-Mobile offers unless you were within range of your needed WiFi connection.

In the long run, if you have an area that uses the T-Mobile HotSpot frequently and you utilize this phone from home for your home calls, this would save you money on minutes and overall plan usage.  Check it out at the T-Mobile site and see if it’s the plan and phone, for you!
