Memory for the Poker Fanatic

Posted on 23 April 2007 by Annie-san

If you have a poker fan in your house or are looking for the perfect gift to give someone that plays the game, take a peek at the new Poker Chip USB Drive from Memorex.

It is shaped in the familiar poker chip shape and bring some fun to carrying around your favorite bookmarks or information on a jump drive.  Just load up your stuff and click it…and you’ve got a nicely sized USB drive to carry around…with style.

And as a bonus?  You get a handy, pre-installed game of Texas Hold’em and 1GB of storage space.  Find these in Target stores near the end of April.

Automatic Soap dispenser for truly clean hands

Posted on 23 April 2007 by girlrobot

automatic-soap-dispenserThe toilet isn’t exactly the cleanest place on earth, which is why it is important to wash one’s hands upon completion of your task, be it big or small. However, the idea of washing my soap-lathered hands by turning on a filthy tap (especially in public toilets) and then using the same pair of now clean hands to turn off the tap is pretty ironic to me. What more, using dirty hands to obtain soap from a soap dispenser manually can be quite the turn off for some people as well. Thankfully, the Automatic Infrared Soap Dispenser solves this problem by dispensing soap automatically without any germs making a transit trip either way.

The Autoamtic Infrared Soap Dispenser can hold up to 10 oz of liquid soap and is operated by a quartet of AA batteries. Each purchase will set you back by $39, so it will cost a small fortune if you want to equip your entire home with one at each sink. Hopefully they will sell a combo that includes the Automatic Infrared Soap Dispenser and an Automatic Tap to eliminate the earlier irony I mentioned.

Pink protection for Treo 680 and 750

Posted on 22 April 2007 by girlrobot

treo-pink-cases

With plenty of smartphones to choose from in the market these days, it is no wonder cellphone and smartphone accessories are quite a profitable venture for most companies. Seidio has entered the third party Treo accessory market by offering a fair amount of new accessories for both the Treo 680 and 750 in the near future. While the final range will include a swivel lock rubberized holster, standard and extended batteries, crystal case/rubberized cases and more, what we’ll look at today are the pink metal cases for both Treo 680 and 750 models.

These pink cases come with more than adequate room to store the 2400 mAh battery for power users while offering ample protection against the unwanted knocks and shocks. Pricing details are still unavailable as at press time, but they shouldn’t hurt the pocket too much. I don’t really like the way the Treos end up while wearing these cases, but protection comes at a price.

Bee-inspired vase from Libertiny

Posted on 22 April 2007 by girlrobot

honeycomb-vaseDesigner Tomas Gabzdil Libertiny took a look at nature and decided to work on this cool looking vase which was shaped after that of a bee hive, and this vase can be used to coax real bees to colonize it after embossing some wax sheets with a honeycomb pattern. If you’re interested in seeing the finished product, you can always head down to Droog’s Smart Deco 2 show in Milan later this year - hopefully the bees in Italy won’t colonize it by then, giving a stinging reception to those attending the show!

Libertiny has also given some insight on his thought process behind the vase, and I quote, "To give a form to this natural product it has occurred more than logical to choose a form of a vase as a cultural artifact. Beeswax comes from flowers and in the form of a vase ends up serving flowers on their last journey.". It is also interesting to note that the process to create this unique vase took 40,000 bees per week.

Go for gold with Motorola V3i

Posted on 22 April 2007 by girlrobot

motorola-v3i-aloissonWhile the Motorola V3i has been around for quite some time already, it has not escaped the attention of Peter Aloisson who has taken his opulent design streak and applied it to the humble V3i. Despite sharing the same innards as every other V3i in the market, this handset comes in a stainless steel gold version that guarantees to set your face alight with glee while others at your table turn green with envy. As if the Midas touch is not enough, Aloisson has so kindly thrown in 855 diamonds into the fray, weighing a total of 3.8 carats on the cover.

Of course, such extravagance comes at a price and you will have to be prepared to part with £5,000 for this handset. Those who still want to impress their girlfriends or reconcile with their wife after a particularly bitter quarrel but do not have that much cash to spare can always check out the stainless steel version with all 855 diamonds for a more affordable (but still insane) £2,000.

Hassle-free cherry poppin’

Posted on 21 April 2007 by girlrobot

cherry-pitterEating cherries can be a pretty enjoyable past time for some, but like all good things in life, there is a price to pay. And in this case, we have to settle for removing cherry pits that more often than not get in the way of our enjoyment. OXO has redesigned its Cherry Pitter that apparently works pretty effectively whenever you’re serving guests cherries for dessert or preparing a meal that requires cherries to be thrown into the rest of the pan. This simple device actually works with the same principle as that of a hole puncher for documents, and operates like a nut cracker without actually causing any damage to the fruit.

It comes in a sturdy construction and with comfortable grips so you won’t accidentally lose hold of it while trying to get those pesky pits out. Interested kitchen divas will be able to pick up the Cherry Pitter for $11.99 a pop.

Pink KRZRs coming your way

Posted on 21 April 2007 by girlrobot

motokrzr-pinkMotorola’s KRZR will soon be available in a new color, and guess what - it will attempt to look fashionable in pink. This thinner successor to the RAZR is much slimmer and offers improved features such as a better digital camera, but that’s about it. Nothing really groundbreaking has been thrown into the picture at this point of time.

I personally find it disappointing that Motorola has not really offered anything new in its line of cellphones since the original RAZR exploded onto the scene a few years ago with its revolutionary design. Hopefully the company will realize that we don’t want new KRZRs that come in different colors, concentrating instead on throwing in newer functions and better specifications. Still, the pink Motorola KRZR will arrive on AT&T first, followed by T-Mobile, and the rest of the CDMA camp before summer is over. Those looking for a Mother’s Day present ought to be able to get one in time for that occasion.

Newton maintains a careful balance

Posted on 21 April 2007 by girlrobot

newton-sugar-creamFinnish company Tonfisk Design has come up with a no-brainer improvement of an everyday device in the form of a single container that contains both sugar and cream. This means you no longer have to juggle different containers every morning in order to get the perfect cup of frothed joe. This new container known as the Newton always keeps the sugar bowl component more or less on an even plane despite having the container tilted when pouring out the cream. You won’t even have to worry about having any sugar plopping into your cream, splattering your Sunday best with unsightly coffee stains in the process.

Hopefully the Newton works equally well with granulated sugar as there is no word on whether this is a sugar cube-only device. Rare Device is carrying the Newton for $68 a pop. Hopefully this Newton won’t tank the same way as Apple’s attempt at the PDA did.

Pocket Locket gets tech boost

Posted on 20 April 2007 by girlrobot

kodak-pocket-locket

I must say that pocket lockets are pretty adorable fashion items, but more often than not they remain in the domain of the old, white-haired, and geriatric who can’t be bothered just how many megapixels your camera has, as long as their most precious memory remains safely tucked inside one of those lockets. From the exterior, the 1881 Pocket Locket from Kodak looks just like any antiquated locket, but designer Lindsey Picket has used her imagination to throw in an integrated camera lens on the locket’s exterior along with twin LCD displays that appear when you open the locket up.

These twin LCDs will display your favorite memories in a digital format whenever the locket is opened, thanks to its integrated memory. The entire 1881 concept was designed to pay homage to the heritage and value of family heirlooms while introducing a little bit of modern technology. Unfortunately, it currently remains a concept at the moment so you’ll have to cobble one together or beg a hardware manufacturer to mass produce these if you want one so badly. Still, it looks set to be a solid idea for a fashionable gadget.

Bathtime gets safer with Digital Bath Spout Cover

Posted on 20 April 2007 by girlrobot

spoutcoverAnyone with kids know the importance of getting just the right temperature when it comes to persuading your offspring to wash themselves off after a long hard day running around. Better warm water than cold, but sometimes the heating system can overdo it, leaving a pair of worried parents and at least a scalded, crying kid in the process. The Digital Bath Spout Cover aims to eliminate this painful ordeal from repeating itself ever again, as it comes with a digital display on the spout cover that tells you the current temperature of the water flowing through its spout.

This nifty little device works great when you’re trying to fill up a bathtub at just the right temperature, and can even be purchased for homes that do not have any kids inside as adults could do with some pampering once in a while. The display works great, featuring large numbers and colors that make it simple to tell the temperature range at a glance. The Digital Bath Spout Cover retails for a shade under $31.
