Intelligent Drive i810 looks purdy

Posted on 30 April 2007 by girlrobot

pqi-i810

While everyone goes ga ga over the latest cellphones and MP3 players due to their design, USB flash drives are often overlooked and neglected in the aesthetics department. PQI decided to go against the grain by offering a spanking new generation of USB flash drives that will definitely appeal to fashionistas and socialites alike. Known as the Intelligent Drive i810, this USB flash drive is fully compliant with USB 1.1/2.0 standards and compatible with Windows ME, 2000, XP, Vista, and Mac 10.1 operating systems.

Not only does the Intelligent Drive i810 look good, it is one tough nut to crack being water, dust, shock, and vibration proof. Ladies can pick up the pink version (what else?) while men will settle for the stoic iron grey color. Capacities range from 512MB to 2GB. Each i810 measures 30mm x 15.2mm x 5mm and weighs 2.2g. It would’ve been better if it could work as a ReadyBoost drive, but I suppose you can’t have your cake and eat it too in this case.

Earbuds As Jewelry

Posted on 30 April 2007 by Techie Diva

Piladelphia designer Ashley Gehman won’t be selling these earbud earrings in stores anytime soon. She actually created them for her iArticraft project which explores what happens when the iPod earbuds are separated from the digital age. As you can see, the result is less than spectacular, and I sincerely doubt even the most hardcore iPod fan would be caught wearing these. What do you think? [Core 77]Ipodearrings

Neil USB Station

Posted on 30 April 2007 by girlrobot

neil-usb-station

Do you remember the days when USB ports were located way back behind a computer? Even until today, all desktops and most notebooks come with USB ports scattered all over - at the back, the sides, and in front. Unfortunately for the most of us, our desktops are more often than not placed on the floor, causing us to bend down and sometimes go on all fours just to plug in a USB device or peripheral, risking our freshly painted nails (for the ladies) being broken and soiling our knees. The Neil USB Station aims to eliminate this scenario from happening ever again, thanks to his long USB umbilical cord that enables him to sit prettily on your desk.

If you ever need more USB ports within your reach, just hook up a USB hub to Neil and you’re good to go. This spaceman-looking USB station is made from plastic and retails for $16.49.

Hand Butler at your service, ma’am

Posted on 30 April 2007 by girlrobot

hand-butlerHow many times have you attended a family gathering, sitting down in front of a sumptuosly perpared meal only to have it interrupted by Aunt Bertha who constantly asks you to pass her the various dishes just because she’s too lazy to get up and take it herself? With the Hand Butler, you no longer need to worry about that scenario happening since this unique device is capable of ferrying whatever is on its palm over to the direction you set it off. Don’t worry about the Hand Butler dropping over the edge of the table and breaking your precious china, as it comes with an integrated sensor that informs it upon reaching an edge, stopping automatically.

The Hand Butler is pressure activated, but I would’ve loved to see this come with a remote control since it would be more versatile that way. Powered by a couple of C batteries, the Hand Butler retails for $19.95.

Sinking fund gives hope for the future

Posted on 29 April 2007 by girlrobot

titanic-bankThe mighty Titanic, originally an object of grandeur, has long been associated with failures and disasters of a large magnitude. This connotation along with the function of the Titanic Bank is a paradox of sorts, featuring a coin box that is shaped after that of the sinking Titanic for you to store some dough when everything around you starts to sink downwards in a free-wheeling spiral. Made from bronze and designed by Scott Nelles, the entire Titanic Bank is made from bronze and finished with a subtle patina, bringing a chilling and cold conclusion look to aspiring savers.

At $110, these definitely aren’t cheap to begin with. Each Titanic Bank measures 9.5" in length and 6.5" in height, offering more than enough cargo space to store hundreds of dollars in loose change and notes. In fact, you could probably store enough to purchase an extravagant impulse buy such as a PS3 or an Xbox 360 Elite with some change left over.

Kai Dental Floss Holder ain’t no flesh eater

Posted on 29 April 2007 by girlrobot

kai-floss-holderThere have been horror stories of piranhas eating up any human unfortunate enough to wade into its territory, devouring everything in its path with surprising speed and efficiency. Thankfully, these are plastic piranhas that you see on the left, known as Kai Dental Floss Holder. As its name suggests, stored within the bellies of these truly monstrous (in terms of reputation and not size) fish lie a roll of floss, the scourge of all foodstuff stuck in between your teeth after a hearty meal. The teeth on these plastic piranhas were not quite cut out to slice flesh like a hot knife through butter, but instead offers a convenient and cute method of dispensing your dental floss daily.

There are five colors to choose from currently - red, blue, green, turquoise, and orange. Each Kai Dental Floss Holder measures 4" x 3" x 2.5". Replacement floss rolls are sold separately, so you can pick one up for $15.95. Pretty pricey in my opinion, but if it helps get your kids (and you) in the mood for some flossing, it’d be well worth the price.

MouseRug for Aladdin

Posted on 29 April 2007 by girlrobot

mouserug

I find it strange that when it comes to computer peripherals like the mouse, there are plenty of hardware manufacturers out there who have the time to think of some pretty solid designs, but the mousepad suffers the indignation of being overlooked. Some mousepads are even sexist in nature, featuring oversized boobs that are filled with some sort of gel for you to rest your wrist upon and stoke those illicit desires within. The MouseRug that you see here is modeled after different kinds of rugs to suit your taste.

I suppose the lack of interesting mousepads in the market is due to the fact that mice have since lost their balls and moved on to optical, and now, laser technology that doesn’t require a proper surface to function properly. Will these rugs actually cause carpet burns on your hand as you move too fast to grab that last second frag? Prices start from $18.98 onwards.

Gadgets get plush treatment

Posted on 28 April 2007 by girlrobot

plushgadget

While gadgets are made from cold, hard metal with a generous helping of plastic and other electronic components, they aren’t exactly the best items to cuddle up to during those cold, lonely nights when you’re left with nothing but a broken heart. Thankfully, a sensitive geek at heart decided to take up the challenge of producing plush versions of everyday gadgets such as digital cameras, ancient typewriters, and a sewing machine among others.

According to the creator of these plushies, it takes anywhere from a week to two weeks in creating a single plushie, no thanks to the painstaking task of dyeing felt and cutting out a pattern, followed by the ardous process of sewing them. While no pricing details have been released with regard to these plushies, interested parties will be thrilled to know that an online store will be set up in the near future.

Cat’s rear end sharpens pencils

Posted on 28 April 2007 by girlrobot

cat-arse-sharpener

Now the person(s) who invented this certainly has a sadistic streak inside, and boy would I ever not want to be his/her pet cat as the source of inspiration. Perhaps the designer was clawed pretty badly during his/her younger days by a feline, but certainly the Cat’s Arse Sharpener is one step too far when it comes to taking revenge? The name itself explains everything - all you need to do is insert the blunt tip of a pencil inside the cat’s nether regions and start sharpening your pencil.

The white, plastic cat will begin to meow as the pencil is being sharpened (out of pain or otherwise, I’ll leave that to your imagination). The litter tray located at the bottom is there to collect all your pencil shavings for disposal later. Interested parties and cat haters can pick up this interesting gift idea for £6.95 a pop.

UV Beads Checker tells you to stay indoors

Posted on 28 April 2007 by girlrobot

uv-beads

Everyone knows that while UV light is essential for plants to engage in the process of photosynthesis, it can be pretty damaging to human skin, causing us to age much faster than we’d like when we’re overexposed to it. In Japan, women claim that UV light is the biggest enemy as those crow lines appear way before they should (or at least, that’s what they think, but who are we to argue with a country that has the most elderly people in the world?) While there are tons of beauty products that help fight against this skin scourge, the UV Beads Checker subscribe to the adage "prevention is better than cure".

The UV Beads Checker look like an ordinary string of transparent beads, changing color under strong UV light. They can be attached to your cellphone as charms or even worn around your wrist as a bracelet, with the option to add in an extra piece of Swarovski crystal. Prices start from $6 upwards, depending on the amount of beads strung. I don’t know about you, but do you really need a device that tells you not to stay too long under the sun?
