Those 99 cent stores are crazy cool. It’s a great place to buy all your cleaning supplies, or a great place to line up for a 99¢ iPod. According to a press release, a new store will be opening Thursday, December 14th at 8 am, and the first 9 customers to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony will be able to buy a 2GB iPod Nano. The nine customers after that, can get a T.M.X Tickle Me Elmo for again 99¢, but it gets crazier. The next 99 customers after that can purchase a scooter for 99¢. Said store is located at 820 East Imperial Hwy in Brea, CA. The madness continues until Wednesday Dec. 20, but all the good stuff will be given away on the first day, so pack your tent and let the campout begin.

The only time my cat leaves my lap, is when I turn on the heater. He loves being warm, and I love it when he’s off my lap. For needy kitties like Hershey, the Heated Pet bed is a must have. I’m so getting one for my kitty this Christmas. The bed is lined with faux lambskin, and includes a washable cover. Apparently the bed stays at a constant 102 F thanks to a 4-watt heater, that can be adjusted by two intelligent thermostats. You’ll pay $60 for this kitty luxury, but he’ll love you for it. Folks, the USB toy craze has completely crossed-over from utterly ridiculous to completely disturbing. Is a USB Humping Dog really necessary? The Google Japanese to English translation says, "When Humping Dog of dog type it equips the USB connector between the crotch, inserts in the USB port [kakukaku] and the waist are moved, until (it pulls out, it does not stop)." Yeah, just what everyone needs, a humping dog that won’t stop humping your PC, classic.

As if we don’t hear enough voices in our head, designer Kate Hartman created what she calls the Muttering Hat. The hat is constructed out of an MP3 player, headphones, speakers, plastic funnels and microphones all hidden within a funny looking fleece hat. "This project considers internal mutterings - indistinct and intertwined thoughts that get trapped within your own head. By using the form of a hat, the attempt is to take what is normally contained, internal, unexposed, and to release it and expose it to the world."

Not 100% sure that YouTube merits Time Magazine’s "Best Invention of the Year" award, considering how frivolous it seems next to robots that would rescue injured soldiers or vaccines that would protect young women against cervical cancer. But Time defends it’s decision by saying it created a new way for millions of people to communicate on a scale never seen before. I have a feeling you ain’t seen nothing yet. Technically challenged webcam lovers who shied away from video editing software and expensive camera equipment, will now rejoice at YouTube’s Quick Capture feature. This flash based program enables users with the ability to capture video using their existing web cam, then publish it immediately onto YouTube. Oh Goody, now we get to sort through even more rants like this one.

Japanese are crazy about the Nanocare dryer currently sold in Japan for 20,000 Yen ($167). Since it’s release in July 2006, this dryer has already sold over 110,000 units thanks to its ability to reduce frizz and make hair strong and lustrous, reports Trends in Japan. The Nanocare EH5441 is is "equipped with a device that uses electricity to break down airborne moisture into micro droplets, which are delivered together with a stream of hot air. The minute droplets have a radius of 18 nanometers (a nanometer is a billionth of a meter) and contain minus ions. When they are sprayed on the head, oil that has built up on the scalp is loosened, making it easier to wash away. A subsequent shampoo leaves users feeling refreshed and reportedly makes hair lustrous and supple."

LaCie’s Huby is a strange looking USB/Firewire Hub, but if you have to stare at it all day while it’s sitting on your desk, it might as well look interesting. Ora-Ito, the same designer that brought us the stackable Brick Desktop Hard Drives, is at it again with the stylish Huby that adds 4 USB ports and 2 FireWire ports to your computers. Aside from extending the ports on your computers, the Huby also has a USB fan, light, and looks pretty cool. Impress your roomates with one this Christmas.
