Pillow Talk Notifies You of IMs

Posted on 22 November 2006 by Techie Diva

PillowtalkMake blog has post about the Chatter Pillow Rebecca created. The idea is to send an alert wirelessly to the pillow alerting you of incoming messages coming from the one you love. Nice way to unplug without worrying about missing important messages.

In her own words: "Chatter uses the Plushie Message Framework (chat-parsing script to Arduino to wireless module) to send selected instant messages from your computer to the message pillow. Often times I leave my message client open just to get that "emotional check-in" or other brief snippet from my sweetheart, but I don’t want messages from anyone else. With the Chatter Pillow, I just alter a few parameters in the script to filter all but three messages from him: "xo," "on my way," and "talk to me." That way I can be on the couch or ready for bed and still get the message. The pillow lights up with the appropriate symbol indicating whether he’ll be home soon or if I should make my way to the computer to answer a question.""

Posted on 22 November 2006 by Techie Diva

There’s a nice application that turns your Powerbook into a puppet. DasAutomat.com wrote this app taking advantage of the Powerbook’s sudden motion sensor position data, and using it to create a digital puppet that reacts to movement. Here’s the video:

LED Game Tables Rock!

Posted on 22 November 2006 by Techie Diva

RouletteMoritz Waldemeyer developed some very cool concepts that feature LED gaming on tables. Instead of sticking to regular games, this genius embedded LED lights and touchpads into plain white tables to create interactive games. The white table transforms itself into a ping pong machine at the flick of a switch, while the Roulette table shows an illuminated map. Both tables were exhibited in London at the Rabih Hage Gallery.

Dress like the Stars

Riya, the company that brought us photo recognition, has launched a new visual search engine called Like.com that will eventually let you upload photos of the rich and famous to help you find more affordable, yet similar fashions. It currently lets you search by celebrities’ name, or by zooming in on features you like about an item. It’s like…so cool! Actually, all fun aside, I’ve been dying to find out where a certain celebrity got her boots, searching endlessly in every store at the mall to no avail. I hope this new visual engine helps me find those boots before Christmas. But wouldn’t it be even better if it let you search for things like Ashlee Simpson’s plastic surgeon, or Jennifer Aniston’s hairstylist? I’m sure that technology will be available soon.

GeoGreetings Fun

Posted on 20 November 2006 by Techie Diva

Geotag
Remember that marriage proposal that popped up on Google Maps? A more effortless and streamlined way of conveying a message has arrived in the form of GeoGreetings. The creator must be an avid fan of Google Maps, where he gathered images of buildings that looked like letters to put together the Geogreeting.  Enter your message, and let the engine do all the work of locating the letters all around the world. You can then forward a link with the animated message to your friends. That’s impressive!

Babysitter Around Your Neck

Posted on 18 November 2006 by Nick

Babysitter The baby-business has been going high tech for quite a few years now, but never did we actually wear an electronic baby sitter around our neck before. Now we can: mom’s around the world, be aware… this is scary. You can strap on a contraption, attach some electrodes to junior’s bottom (yes!) and his nipples (YES!), and you will be automatically altered when he poos, or get’s cold.

It saves baby sitter costs, but really… I wonder if it also alerts you when the child is hungry, crying or just plain lonely? The concept was introduced at the ubiquitous fashionable computer show in Korea.

I don’t really think this will catch on with parents around here though. Were would you leave the kid? At home? Or just at the coat check. In any event, you can always use it as a very fancy necklace.
